Cat experts help

My girlfriend and I just got a new cat. We're fairly certain it is a European Shorthair Cat, but are unsure of the actual price they come at. We got it free, and it it probably around 1yr old. How much do european shorthairs go for? She and i were just curious.. thanks!

Since you say that you're "fairly certain" that it's a particular breed, I'm assuming that you have no papers for the cat? In that case, I'm sure your local humane society will take the cat, but it will probably be destroyed if it's not adopted after a certain amount of time. I doubt that you'll be able to sell it for any amount of money.

I just re-read your post, though, and it seems that you're just curious about what a purebred European Shorthair would go for? I don't see that breed listed: http://www.cfa.org/breeds.html

I did find a European Shorthair breeder in Czechoslovakia, but they don't have prices listed (that I saw): http://adikia.pc.cz/

Ah, the reason why the CFA doesn't list the "European shorthair" seems to be because it's a Scandinavian thing... http://www.brekeke.net/akaisha/europeans.php

I'm guessing that you've got yourself an American Shorthair unless that cat came from Scandinavia or another breeder...

Yea, just a note, my degree was in animal science (and I was a vet assistant for 3+ years), and european shorthair isn't a breed name that rings a bell.

I'm not looking to see it, as we adopted it free from a small store who found it.
It looks in really good condition, and the book we bought calls it a European Shorthair... I'm just looking at how much it would have been if we had bought it. It's definatly a breed, and we don't have papers. We are getting it vaccinated and nuetured(sp?) (POOR KITTY, but it's nessesary) soon. It's a really gentle cat, and a really good cat overall. We are about to go see an animal doctor to see what he needs, and we can ask them as well what breed he is.

Is it a european book? Might be fancy french talk for "domestic shorthair" which isn't trading well on the futures market these days, since they reproduce faster than they can be spayed or neutered.

You might find an unscrupulous juggler in the market for some prime domestic shorthair but that's about it.

The Animal shelter said it was an American shorthair, or Domestic shorthair.. both the same. She knew what we meant though by European shorthair. The cat is a boy, and we will be able to nuetuer it and vaccinate it for around $60. Thanks for you help!!
