tacmod, 7/23

Few fun games, but the funnest was steel thunder as usual. For the first 20 or so minutes our squad defended and attacked from place to place, but were constantly followed by 1, if not, 2 friendly squads wherever we went. It got a bit ridiculous, so i decided to have the squad become a tank squad. I had never hopped in a tank in this map out of fear, but figured with teamwork and a lot of coordination it would be possible.

Our basic plan was to have 3 teams of 2. The drivers were assaults, and the gunners were engineers. We moved together and throughout our battles we learned quite a bit about staying alive amongst all the ATs. First, never go into an open area without trees. In the open areas the AT had a clearer shot (no trees to stop the missile), and the helicopters werent afraid of crashing. We generally got torn up whenever on roads or in the open areas because of this. When we stuck to the forests, we were much more effective. We tried to keep the spacing between the tanks at 20 meters. This made it less likely for us to be flanked by AT, and it kept all the AT from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock. We were many times more lethal when accompanied by infantry squads as well, because we would make the enemy duck in the brush while our infantry went in an cleared them out.

Tybalt and i were one of the tank teams, and i believe we only died twice. Once was to a helicopter because we were on a road, and the other was because we were alone against several enemy tanks. As SL its important to remind everyone to not get themselfs in a precarious situation, stick in the forests, use of good movement, and have the gunner spot ATs as much as he can by giving the "o clock" directions (for a lack of a better term). If you have a really good squad that follows orders well, it may be a good idea to break each tank into "alpha", "bravo", and "charlie" for better movement throughout the huge forests. One last thing, if anyone gets too close to the tank, the engineer can hop out and kill the guy up close very easily. The shotgun in tacmod is incredibly good at close range because of the lower amount of health everyone has. I killed perry many a times as he was trying to C4 my tank with the shotgun

Dont take this personally, but you looked like an idiot trying to snipe people across the river with that shotgun. It was freaking hillarious, you reminded me of robocop doing that a long time ago.

Except I didn't get sniped over and over and have Evil Lemon and myself revive me each time.

Re: tacmod, 7/23

From my experience on Jibbel, the shotgun has become retarded somewhere in between TacMod 1.0 and this version.

I was getting shot by it while half my body was behind cover, from 50+ meters away and losing half my health every time the guy fired. And then something even more retarded happened at the Mosque. I had revived perry like 5 times and healed him to full and he went towards the flag as I went prone next to a plant box to heal someone else. Watched perry go near the corner and some engi popped around the corner, shot once, killed him but also somehow killed me with the same shot when I was 30-50 meters away from perry, prone next to a plant box, at full health.

I mean, it should do lot of damage at close range but it's pretty much effective at medium-long range now with little aiming required.

Pretty fun games. I did notice a lot of new faces, did we go on a recruitment drive or something? There were at least six or seven people I've never seen before.

We should go on a recruitment drive - not only for tacmod but regular nights as well.

I think there was a 1.3 announcement made on totalbf2 frontpage

On Karkand, me and Santa were trying to coordinate an attack to get across the river, except I used public chat to tell every squad the heads up. Im an idiot

We try to announce each release of the mod outside of TG. There were quite a lot of new faces. We also had the SM kick script running. I hope everyone took the chance last night to welcome the new folks and invite them to visit again. I also home there wasn't any smacktardery.

I hope the community didn't miss out on this chance to bring over new players and help the population grow.

Re: tacmod, 7/23

I really enjoyed Steel Thunder. We spent most of the round trying to avoid tanks by hiding in the grass. It was very intense.

I ended up as SL for Karkand. I had Bleak, Jmaker, Soonerfan, and Biscuitmaker (a new player) in my squad. I just could not stay alive. It was really pathetic. I spent most of the round dead trying to figure out what to do next. I would spawn and die almost immediately. My squad could just not get a foothold anywhere. It was defiantely not my best night as SL. Thanks guys for sticking with me!

Re: tacmod, 7/23

I want to apologize to my squad for the terrifying Black Hawk ride through Jibbel City in the opening minutes. We took the Black Hawk south through the mountains, hoping to come around the back and land on the TV station or somewhere around there. When we arrived we found the TV station helipad guarded, .50 cals firing on us, and AA locking onto us. I desperately tried to get us the hell out of there by weaving through the buildings and mountains while under heavy fire, looking for a safe place to land. We finally seemed to have escaped the stream of bullets and missiles when we reached the northeast gas station, but we were on fire and still in the air! Someone screamed, "SET US DOWN NOW!!!", as I descended as quickly as I could. We touched down on the road and I ordered everyone to jump out and run away from the burning chopper as quickly as possible. As we sprinted towards the gas station the mangled wreck behind us exploded in a fiery blaze, launching charred wreckage in every direction. That was an exciting and frightening moment. I never would have heard the end of it from Santa if the whole squad had perished at my hands.

Moments like that are why I like the removal of the parachutes.

I assume you inherited my "Useless" squad. It 'twas me first time leading on Jibbel City and I was happy that I had a full squad following me AND nobody left. The later part made me feel very happy. Goodness, I did not realize how much pressure the SL is under to make fast decisions while being personally responsible for sending squadmates into their death. Was a fun experience, though, and I learned a lot. However, I still need to learn how to not die so often. Any prominent SL wanna teach me?

Special thanks to Wimpinator, Chappie, Bodofooko, Fiden, and MisterBiscuit for following me around!

Hey Penguineer..

you did a good job last night!!! The more you SL the better you get, plus you gave out some precise, clear orders on what you wanted from the squad...good job!!!

Yeah I ended up with the "Useless" squad.

I had no idea that you didn't SL very often. You sounded like a pro and I had a lot of fun in your squad.
