Kits explained.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/ba...ml?sid=6154750

an excerpt -

"Speaking of which, the health pack works quite a bit differently in Battlefield 2142 than in previous games. Now, you only get a single health pack, which you can throw onto the ground. This won't instantly heal anyone who picks it up, but rather it creates a healing radius that's similar to the supply crates in Battlefield 2. You must now get up next to a health kit and wait while it heals you."

sounds like they took a cue from Tac Mod lol

Everything is that article sounds awesome. I love the network battlefield idea. You just need to look at the enemy, with no need to spot. Very convientent. Much better than trying like 5 times to actually "spot" it.

Re: Kits explained.

neat:
" ..Yet, large portions of the Battlefield 2 player base still don't play in squads, so DICE is introducing lots of little carrots to get players to squad up. One of these is the idea of field upgrades, which will be ways for squads to get rewarded for good play. If your squad works together and you accomplish objectives, you may unlock a field upgrade, which gives you access to unlocks that you might not regularly have access to. The longer you work together as a squad, the more temporary unlocks you can get.

...

Another carrot is taking the idea of the networked battlefield that today's military is working on and projecting it into the future. Squad members will be data-linked to one another. If you spot an enemy unit, others in your squad will be able to see it as well in the form of an icon on their screens. You don't even need to report its presence, like you have to do in Battlefield 2. Just put the reticule on the target and targeting information pops up, which is transmitted to the rest of the squad."

Awesome article, and did I mention that OpFor looks so damn cool?

Re: Kits explained.

Nice post Snail! I like how you can't spam medpack with 2142 and the heal radius promotes squad play.

Re: Kits explained.

The weapons look and sound sexy. A lot of new gameplay footage. I cant wait to find awesome places for my sentry gun

Also, notice that the gaeplay footage is in widescreen. Ive also seen people playing it on a LAN and they all had 24" widescreens. This all lends me to believe theyre going to implement widescreen! Woot!

Re: Kits explained.

Its funny that they look to promote teamwork (field score and network battlefield) but at the same time they introduce features that encourage solo play (dog tags and unlocks). Im actually pretty impressed with this. I doubted it before but Im slowly becoming more and more intrigued, especially after the video.

Re: Kits explained.

Yea i thought the same thing. But ya know what? Im gonna be laughing each time i see someone charge at me with a knife...this is a gun battle after all I do think they are doin a damn fine job on trying to promote teamplay though. Even the guy in the video said theyre seeing a lot more people working together.

Also, think of the possibilities on titan mode played here at TG. Say our teams shield is down and youve only got the enemy's down about 50%. Santa jumps in the command chair to play mother teresa. He quickly puts two squads on defense of our titan, ordering them to repel the enemy as long as they can. While the rest of the squads fight desperately for the now-vacant missile silos down below.

We finally bring down their shield and load up in APC's, but not before the enemy pushed all the way to our core and destroyed 2 of the 4 consoles. Santa then orders eeveryone on the ground to assault their Titan ASAP. Our 2 squads on defense are doing everything they can to survive - Sentry guns, sentry drones, active camo, setting traps, etc. Theyre really saving our bums on this one.

After a very nice sneak attack by Beatnik (using active camo and laying down a squad becon in a lil hidey hole), we destroy all 4 of the enemy's consoles and the only thing left is the core. Duke runs in, slaps the charges on, blows it and everyone just makes it off the titan before it blows. Comeback win to the extreme. now THATS what i want and i kinow TG can give me it

ditto, I noticed that right away. more teamplay, and more rogue knife frenzy. and what was that about collecting dog-tags and "spamming" (i think) your victims? something for everyone, how sweet.

Re: Kits explained.

If EA is as retarded with their ranking system as they were in BF2 then you can say bye bye to squadless kick or any custom settings because this time unlocks are an integral part of the game and not just bonuses...
