Where is the Line Between Art and Porn?

Babytalk magazine recently published a side view of a nursing baby on their cover. Apparently 1/4 of the mothers that read their magazine believed that the image was inapproriate.

I don't care if the wench ate the apple thousands of years ago or not, breasts are primarily for breast feeding, everything else is a perk.

Man, is this really how sensitive our culture is to this? I swear sexuality is a more taboo subject than any other, including all forms of violence depicted in the media.

This:

That's absolutely ridiculous. What a bunch of sick twisted people if they find that sexual in the least...

Wow, some people need to get a grip. Women that think men & boys are getting aroused over a baby feeding need to have a reality check. Thumbs up to the lactivists!

And I don't know how much this really qualifies as an art/porn debate. This is so far from porn that it goes all the way around the scale and can tap porn on the back.

Re: Where is the Line Between Art and Porn?

For all that the american culture is seen as "wild" and "promiscuous" when it comes to sex, we generally act like teenagers when it comes to public nudity, even in part. The reason, in my opinion, why we don't have nude beaches like they do in Europe isn't because we don't like nudity (or the time-honored excuse of protecting the kiddies), but because we (as a culture) just plain can't handle it. We see a boob and either become instantly uncomfortable or have to hoot/holler/giggle like a schoolgirl about it; there's no just ignoring it or taking it in stride.

I've had women breastfeed in front of me, both in a smaller setting such as a friend's house and in more open places such as a store grand opening. When I first saw it, I'll admit, I got a tiny bit uncomfortable because it seemed weird and was a new experience. Then I thought, "Hey, that's life," and moved on with my day.

I find the topic confusing. This has nothing to do with either art or porn.

All fathers know that there is nothing sexual about the breast when it is feeding your child. The whole process has an incredible impact on your view of the human body. At least it did for me.

I agree. It's too bad that Victorian-era social attitudes still pervade our society.

No. You know what's sad? These aren't parents. If you can't explain a baby suckling on a bare boob to your child, regarless of age, then you're not fit to be a parent. "But my 13 year old might ask me other questions about boobs and porn!" Well, then address his concerns and find out where he's watching porn, but don't blame it on a photo of a boob being used as it was intended.

I agree completely cing. Its not like the hustler at the gas station. To think breast feeding is erotic is cause for some therapy.

As George Carlin said; "I'd rather have my kids see two people f*&%ing than killing each other". Who are they kidding, I bet that boob sold more magazines than they ever have.
