Just caught a rather large spider in my living room...
Large pics:
TacticalSites.com/~cingular/Spider/Spider.JPG TacticalSites.com/~cingular/Spider/Spider2.JPG TacticalSites.com/~cingular/Spider/Spider3.JPG So, what kind of spider is this? I know the pics aren't in focus, but all I have right now is a point and shoot that insists on focusing on the wall of my son's bug catcher. My first thought was, "<Gasp> Look at his back, there's a Brown Recluse in my house!" Then I looked closer and the markings on his back are not in the shape of a fiddle. This looks like a common, harmless (but mean looking!) Wolf Spider to me.

I should've put a quarter in there for size comparison. He was decent sized. I'd say that the diameter of his legs was definitely greater than 3 inches.

Re: Just caught a rather large spider in my living room...
Out of my years lived in texas, don't think I've ever seen that one. I've seen many of them too. Maybe some kind of field spider. Just run when you see a black widow, or fiddle back, I've been bittin by a fiddle back before, and its not pretty.
*edit, actually does it look anything like this spider http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...3Doff%26sa%3DG ? |

I am a large, full-grown adult man, neither hero nor coward - but if I found that in my living room I would be turned instantly into a 10 year old girl.

One site that I read said that Wolf's have four small eyes then two larger eyes above them, and then two medium eyes above them. That's how my spider was... Edit: It seems that Huntsmens are inclined to inhabit tropical climes, and I don't think that North Texas qualifies as that. Along with photos from Wikipedia, I'm fairly certain that this isn't a Huntsman.

You grew up in Tucson and you never saw a wold spider?
I used to feed ants to one that lived in my back yard.

I had a pet tarantula when I was in Tucson. Bought crickets for it to eat. Later let the tarantula go out near Santa Rita High School and let the last couple of crickets go in the back yard. We had a cricket infestation until we moved out of that house...

Re: Just caught a rather large spider in my living room...
Last time I smashed a spider, 1,000 of babies came out and ran everywhere, was the sickest thing ever. Made my aunt jump on top of her computer desk.
