Streaming Videos

I got my new laptop. Installed all of the fun stuff. Now here lies the problem. I can not get any streaming videos to run. I get this error that I need a plug-in. It cane with Windows Media Player 10. Now when I followed the link to get the plug-ins there are about a 100 to chose from. Antone got any ideas on which one I need? If I DL the windows one all it does is DL the media player again with the same results.

Re: Streaming Videos

More than likely you need Macromedia Flash or Apple Quicktime. I suggest the Quicktime Alternative, but I'm not sure if it'll work with WMP 10. It doesn't work all the time with FireFox.

Oh, you might want to get the Real Player Alternative, too...

And definitely download the Xvid Codecs so that you have all your MPEG4 codecs taken care of...

Grab that and try it out. Should play just about anything out there.

Re: Streaming Videos

All righty now. I figured a little bit out. I can watch them with IE but not Firefox. So my problem is with the plug in with Firefox.

Re: Streaming Videos

Oh okay. in Firefox, go to Tools>Options>Downloads>View and Edit Actions

Set all the video files to open w/ Media Player Classic, which comes w/ the K-Lite Pack, and you should be alright.
you also might have to enable javascript for the video's site if you have the NoScript extension running.

Re: Streaming Videos

Firefox 1.5.0.5? There was a bug that made Media Player unhappy and 1.5.0.6 was released today to correct it.

Re: Streaming Videos

I give up. Guess I will have to use IE for my streaming videos. FireFox works on my main computer but I can not get it to run streaming videos on my laptop.

Re: Streaming Videos

Well, I guess you could use an extension for FF called IE Tab.
You can browse as you normally would, and when you come to a page where you can't view the video, you just click a little tab, and that page will be rendered in IE w/in the Firefox browser.
