This game is Tactical Gamer.

GameTrailers.com - Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (PC) - Media, News, Reviews, Previews

Have a look at these two new videos (Strogg Valley Training and GDF Valley Training) This game is going to kill BF 2142, and take away too much of my time. If we get a good group of TG guys here...we are going to have some serious tactical game play. So many sweet features, you guys probably know all these features, but every new video (for me) shows more and more sweetness.

Those videos look amazing.

My only hope is that only very few of the MP missions are so linear. Open-ended maps provide for so much more longevity, while playing those same objectives and chokepoints over and over would get old pretty quick.

I am also not a fan of the head-on style of play, since it is too susceptible to team imbalance and simple spawn camping tactics.

I look forward to more developments.

Any news on whether they've upped the player count?

Not that I've heard. They're dealing with a seriously huge amount of physics stuff when it comes to the netcode, so I bet it's pretty tough to pack more people into there.

Re: This game is Tactical Gamer.

I played ET:QW's at E3 in May. I played twice, one had to stand in line and there always seemed to be a wait from what I remember.

I never played the Quake series to any extent so I am not familiar with the games. I have played alot of BF2 so playing ET was different.

The game feels faster/arcadey than BF2 (or even 2142 from the demo I've played). I think those who were complaining that 2142 is more arcadey and faster than BF2, than wait till you play ET, it's faster/arcadey than both of those games. Faster/arcadey is a subjective term, but from what I know of the Quake series, it's a deathmatch style of game, so maybe that's why ET felt that way. Perhaps those who have played alot of the Quake series can shed some light on that. Maybe the pace will change on the final version.

The game had many of the attributes of BF2, kits, vehicles, that type of thing. I would not say it was a copy, alot of games "borrow" from other games, but I saw the influence for sure.

I can't remember what game mode we were playing, but I got to play the Strogg and Humans sides. The Strogg side is cool. The weapons, vehicles, kits, graphics, were all very well done. One cool thing was that you could shoot the tires off of individual vehicles, say the APC. If you shot one tire, say, you could still drive the vehicle, but it drove like a six wheeled vehicle with only five!

It seemed like the two sides were pushing forward, and not really going back, say like in BF2 where the other team can move back and forth to other flags.

Hopefully the game will fit into the TG style of play.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Once you get past the eye candy, I was wondering if they were going to make it something that actually supported teamplay, or just something that was run-and-gun with some acoutrements borrowed from other titles.

That said, like all other Quake titles, there will be mods...so there is hope that if the game itself is lacking in TG style play, then a Tactical Mod of some sort will be available.

Well, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it, since I was a huge fan of Wolfenstein: ET.

Re: This game is Tactical Gamer.

I've heard quake wars is supposed to be very mod friendly. I'm hoping someone (or TG) can create a mod more suitable.

"Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine, regardless of the level of advantage, if any, it gives over the opposing team." -- Tactical Gamer Primer

Re: This game is Tactical Gamer.

I think a better comparison than Quake would be Wolfenstein:ET, which was also pretty arcadey but in a different way.
