Post TG vs. FCW scrim 8-26-06

Begin thread here.

Kudos to the Admins and particularly Beatnik, who had to go through a logistics nightmare.

Kudos to those who left PoE2 to play for the FCW guys.

Kudos to the COs who mechanized the Platoon, allowing tacics and strategy to continue to be TGs strong point.

Kudos to the studs who continue to shock and awe me with their excellence.

Our biggest concerns became evident with the initial deployment. They assaulted us like no other. I was succesful in taking out the North Brdige in the first seconds of the round. An enemy heavy jeep was just getting on the east side of the bridge when doing so. I radioed to CO that we were being attacked. The rest was a blur. Thanks to support from North and PowerStation we held it for some time. I noticed on the Hud this I. Deployment left them only with Mosque and Backyard.
However, they took North Gas, and then Hotel sooned later, and were bleeding us for some time.

After we were repulsed we stayed at South gas, but could not get out cause it was hot. The interesting thing was that, at one point we had two flags, but we seemed to be always tied or a few tickest a head of them.

I requested to move out. We got no were when trying to get to the Hill.

maybe half way in the map, I requested we pull out again. We got sent to Back Yard. With the support of other squads we took the flag. It was very intense. With the medics doing well and the squad doing well, squad 4 stayed in and kept them very busy. Santa's arty did well and we crashed the flag after words. Of course they attacked the flag with avengence from Mosque.

After this, Santa made us the Support squad.

I think we held it for a while, and after we got put down we spanwed at Hotel and helped out there with getting the assests up. By then I felt like we had things under control cause we had the flags we wanted and was pulling away from them on tickets.

We provided support at PowerStation, were the map ended.

The squad handled themselves very well.

The enemy was very tenacius. In the first minute or so in the map they managed to get a sniper west of hotel and he did a great job.

Also, their tank was very active and in spots u would never think.
They were good at bringing down morale with the flag caps, but again the score seemed to be always even for some time.

I was dissapointed with the bunny hopping, but it is rabbit season.

This inital deployment thow shakey for squad 3, was A+ material for the Platoon.
SL did not make to point of spawn (bombed), plus they came at hotel like no other!! I mean like super quick. davie told us to spawn and defend. When i did, hell if they were not 40 meters south of the flag!!!
They got the flag neutral, and i was lucky to grab the tank when it respawned right before it did. I recieved my first of three flag caps when getting hotel back with the rest of my team mates.

I was bombed or somethig and later spawned on SL west of Village Fort. Our flag cap went well. At this point intial deployment had been right on. They made good pushes to the flag, but no go. I think they got it nuetral, and I got my second flag cap here.
I was given responsiblity of the APC and patrolled our flag and occasionally suprised attacked the enemy were they would set up (the spot were the Corp starts out on the 16 player map.
At this location i witnessed one of the biggest arty kill harvest of a scrim.
Bommando easily got 15 kills there, if not more. Hard to tell when it is scrolling so fast.

Toward the end we decided to remove them from our beach. Here I got my third flag and most for the map at Rock Fort.
We supprised them and i finessed my shots so only the APC splash would destroy the enemy, jaymind was getting barley surviving the spash damage, that is the price u pay for most flag cap assists, no?

From here we partolled our now two flags until the end of the round.

From an infantry point of view, the enemy was shut down in the air, period. We did not need to man the AA cause the gunships were not coming our way.

Once we secured our AO, the enemy did not have much for us. I always felt like we were undercontro.

Things were very managed. Good to see His Excellency control the battlefield from his throne.

Inititial deployment was garbage for me. I could not find a hevay jeep and ran infront of a friendly AA trying to get to a light jeep after everyone left.
The rest of the squad took the jeep and caped the flag and I took up the tank. ac01 on AA and Lorian patrolling on foot ant the heavy jeep.

The squad did good work here. My communication to the CO about enemy movement, and squad member spotting; in addition to the ground and air support we recived, we never got pushed from the AO. Sure they took it once or twice but the PLA got it back. In fact Lorian got most flag caps for the map, very impressive.

At one point they were to the north of us, and traped in a kill zone that was ever so nasty.

We had some mines issues. But i think we got more of them than we did of us. lol. Lorian had a good four enemy kills once. Good stuff.

The map took for ever to finish, but it was finally over.

At this point the enemy air was non existant.

His Excellency told the SLs, that everyone did exactly what they needed to and was happy with the teams productivity.

awsome.

The map was very long,

Re: TG vs. FCW scrim 8-26-06

Mashtuur - Squad 6

Beatnik took the Northern road into the Hill. We drove in, dropped the assets, and then dropped the flag which was lightly defended. The surprising thing was how fast the FCW crew would react. I was carrying a Support kit and dropping ammo bags next to the assets for demolitions and by the time I had dropped them by the assets and reached the flag there were already enemy Engineers spawning at the Hill.

We were able to hold the Hill for a while but like I said they were pretty quick to rally. If you fought off one squad it was a pretty safe bet that you'd get hit by 2 squads (always from different directions) the next time. We'd get overrun on one flag and when we spawned at another it was like there entire team was there too. That strategy kept us off balance for quite a while.

For most of the map the tickets were very close. We started with the bleed but they probably were more often bleeding us. We got an early lead but they were quickly able to overrun 2 of our bases. What kept us in the game was that even though they were bleeding us we were inflicting heavy losses on their attacks. They'd knock us down to 2 flags but we'd get a 20 ticket lead. They'd slowly bleed that off and then we would squeeze out a little bleeding of our own until the scores were neutral and then by that time their attack would be in full swing and we'd start all over.

That was by far my favorite round; we were always racing against the bleed clock just to save a few more tickets. Even when we had the lead they'd suddenly knock us down to 2 flags and you'd start to wonder if this time they might push us off the map.

Oman - Jet Squad

Not much to say here. I need to work on my bomb pilot skills a bit, Snail was nailing stuff but I missed quite a few easy set ups and got hit because I flew to close to a Stinger/the Essex. I also managed to crash into 2 trees, 1 hill, 1 attack helo, 1 F35, and our own MIG (woops, I just wiped out the entire MEC air force on Oman with a single loop). I'm still a little rusty from my "break."

From the air it seemed that the ground forces were doing a good job taking out the enemy vehicles on their own. I think this time the attack helicopter was more instrumental to our win then the jets. All in all this was a fun round with some good dogfights. The FCW pilots were pretty efficient. If I shook one the other one was usually on my tail a few seconds later. On top of that their ground forces were almost always on any available AA. We would’ve died a lot but Duke did an excellent job of keeping them occupied or chasing them off our tail.

Daqing – Squad 2

I was in Bommando’s squad. You can’t go anywhere with that guy without him getting blown up by something. Every time a jet flew over we got hit by a bomb. The one time it missed he took a corner around a warehouse and hit a landmine. I just followed him in my own vehicle because it was too dangerous to ride with him. I think Tybalt has to take some responsibility for this though. He stationed us at one of the closest flags to the enemy airfield. We probably weren’t even really getting bombed most of the time. I think Bommando’s uncanny bomb-magnetism was probably just ripping them clean off the enemy jets and right onto our heads.

Re: TG vs. FCW scrim 8-26-06

First off, big thanks to everyone who showed up and to those I pulled out of PoE to help us even the teams. We had a lot of no shows, particularly in the reserves, so everyone who wanted to was able to participate, if only as a FCW squad. Thanks to the flexibility you guys had, we were able to pull off 3 solid games. And thanks to the COs for their work putting together strategies and teams.

On Mashtuur, my squad fought at every flag but the Mosque throughout the game. FCW was very good at quick, reactive counterattacks, and very aggressive assaults. I didn't see much defense on their part, but a lot of guys charging hard for the whole map. Highlights for me were the asset CPs. We were most successful there, and luckily their aggressive playstyle had them always losing tickets instead of having bleed keep us at a disadvantage. This was my favorite round too, just because the game was very close for almost the whole game.

Oman was largely uneventful for us as we protected the village and manned the AA there. We had a few cool kills and got to send a fireteam to River Fort a few times, but it was uneventful until we all pushed them off the beach at the end there.

Daqing in Bommando's squad was indeed a bombfest. I think I was 8-20 for that round, all from the F-35 and the attack helo. It was still fun as we saw a good amount of action there. Defending it was fun, but we were bomb bait for the entire round.

We'll see if there's another scrim with FCW down the line. I'd like to see that happen. I was impressed that most of their guys stuck around for the third match, and that they agreed to our rules, which were mostly followed, with some exceptions. Sticking around for a third match after Oman must not have been easy, but they managed to keep 20 people to play out the third round.

Great games everyone.

Re: TG vs. FCW scrim 8-26-06

As one of the FCW defectors, I'll give my perspective.

Mastuur was alright. We seemed to have bleed for most of the map, but yet we were losing tickets even faster. Pretty fun round.

Oman was the opposite. We were completely dominated everywhere we went. I was personally Arty'd by Bommando at least 20 times. If it wasn't the Arty killing me, it was the bomber. If not the bomber, it was the attack helo. If not that, then a tank or APC. And finally, if somehow I was still alive, a grenade would be perfectly lobbed into my face. Absolutely demoralizing, and I never want to be on the receiving end of the TG juggernaut again.

Thanks to my squadmates for making it bearable, however. You all did a top notch job!

Re: TG vs. FCW scrim 8-26-06

From the 33rd squad:

Mashtuur
We took the helicopter from the North Gas Station and proceeded to the South Gas Station. My squad parachuted out in time to meetup with the 12th attacking on foot. The flag went down easy and after mopping up, we got called to the Hill. A couple of drops on the Hill and that turned also. From there we flew and drove over to the Backyard. After a little fight, that was secured also. The next stop was the Mosque. Although we tried to take it from the roof, a few of us keep missing and landing on the ground. After being shot down while I was trying to land, I decided to ditch the chopper and operate on foot. We respawned at the North Gas Station and proceeded to retake the Hotel. We stayed at that flag for the rest of the round. We would take the flag, defend for a while, repair the assets, and get pushed off by a wave of attackers. When there were too many defenders, we would stay up in the hills to harass the enemy and force them to keep their defenders tied up at the Hotel. We ended up capturing the Hotel three times over the course of the round.

Oman
We were orginally tasked with defending the Construction Site but got called to backup the Hotel. When we moved out, the Construction Site fell soon afterwards and we got called back. There was only one defender and we quickly recapped it and took defensive positions. The rest of the round was pretty actionless for me. I sent Clawhammer forward to snipe and NorCal out with an APC to assist where necessary. There were piddly forays by the opposition for the flag but they were easily struck down. It was a pretty actionless round overall.

Daqing Oilfields
We got tasked with defense of the Power Station. We captured it unopposed and spread out for defense. I grabbed the AA from the UCB just so I could get some type of action this round. I spend the whole round shooting at planes and helicopters from this flag. Sumluv and Experiment got sent out to defend and repair our assets at our base. While FCW's actions there wouldn't win them the game, I wanted to tie those guys up by having them keep attacking our assets. There were three insignificant attempts to take our flag, but it was put down pretty quickly. This was another quiet round overall.

Another great display of teamwork by TG. Good game, all.

Re: TG vs. FCW scrim 8-26-06

My apologies to squad four ( I think...). I did well enough for the first 20 minutes or so, but my Net connection failed once, then again, and then I was off-line for the next few hours. I spent some time calling Rogers, seems a few blocks in down Ottawa were knocked off-line (not sure if thet is actually the case).

We defended the Power Station mightily, it was a great disappointment to have my ISP fail.

I hope it turned out all right in the end.

Re: TG vs. FCW scrim 8-26-06

Thanks again to Beatnik and Full Contact War gents for making the scrim happen. Ditto what Bane said, I was in his squad for Mashtuur and Oman, but was tasked to take up a 4-man squad with Dark Viper, Santa, and Clawhammer at the Oilfields. DV and the other 2 are the biggest bunch of whiners lol...it was hilarious the whole round. DV was SL in the beginning of the round but he and Clawhammer were fighting like little girls over the helo in east oilfields and in the end he resigned as SL which put me in the chair. We kept East Oilfields for the most part and continued to harrass perry and his gals at the south gas station. It was a nice round Tybalt by all means! Hats off to Bommando and Santa again for CO'ing.

BTW, a couple of guys from the 33rd took a peek at FCW's AAR and it wasn't pretty...still, they played a mean fight during the mashtuur, but with our Air Power in Oman- whew wee, thier players we're bound to drop off...nice job Snail and Arf!

Re: TG vs. FCW scrim 8-26-06

I was a reserve, so I danced between TG and FCW squads, and had a lot of fun.

In Mash I got slotted in with the 12th as their AT. We took a jeep and fasttracked to SouthGas and took the flag there. We defended that the rest of the map, and while it went neutral once, they never took it. My apologies to the 12th for being a sub-par AT gunner.

Cleansweep I was with Beatnick, and we sat back for all of the map. I manned the AA for most of it, and I seemed to be a pretty big bomb magnet. I went 1 for 11 .

Daquing I was FCW. You could not drive 50 feet without getting hammered by two jets and probably a helo - all at the same time. And if you did manage to take a flag, arty was all over it. We did manage to take refinery near the end though.

Props to FCW for hanging on to the end, games well played.

I was pretty impressed that they had so many guys stick it through.

I was one of the guys that volunteered to go over to the USMC for the Daqing map along with Foxoq, TravelinWilburry, and Troublesome4u. I confess to being uninspired in my squad leading, and couldn't get anythign going (sorry guys)

Daqing was not pretty though. After being on the receiving end of a TG spanking I was even more impressed these guys stuck it out. I'm not sure if they had the same CO for the whole scrim (Dippiddoo), but he was quite communicative and responsive to vehicle and supply requests etc. However, it seemed no overall startegy was in place, and he was focussed on advising where the OpFor was or was not.

My favourite map was Mashtuur though. Being in Ric's squad was a blast, as we seemed to pull some pretty good duty that had us in the fight.

Oman, at Village, was about watching things fall from the sky and plinking snipers. I thought it odd at one point that a lone USMC sniper snuck his way into our CP and seemed to be making his way for the flag. I wonder what he thought his chances were??

Once again, major props to the organizers!!

Cheers.

Re: TG vs. FCW scrim 8-26-06

Solid scrim today. Not as intense as GC but Mashtuur was pretty rough, FCW seemed to be wherever we went.

On Oman DV and I worked on keeping the assets down but they were either waiting for us (including claymored artillery) or immediately countered our attempts. They even gunned us down with the CIWS from the ESSEX as we tried to approach in a boat.

Daging was pretty fun. Ric, Lorian and I defended Old City. For some reason we were really only attacked in force twice despite having just 3 of us on defense. Like Bane, I spent the round in the mobile AA shooting at/down helos and jets and turning it on infantry when necessary. From the in game chat it certainly seemed like the FCW pilots weren't too happy about the constant lock ons/kills from the ground.

Re: TG vs. FCW scrim 8-26-06

Mashtuur was hectic and stressful for me. The beginning went badly and not having the scanner and the rest of the assets didnt make me much happier. We were always in the lead (i think?), but the real turning point was when the 12th repelled a gigantic assault on south gas station. I had just sent a squad off the gas station that was helping the 12th in order to take another flag. Next thing they sent 2-3 squads to the south gas station. They held off that huge attack between mantis and the arty, and it seemed to give us a spark. I guess they drew so much attention in those ~5 minutes that other squads had an easier time. What i think we did really well was attacking in force at the power station and hotel flags in the second half of the game. Even if we were bleeding at the time, we did such a good job of attacking that they actually lost more tickets than we did.

I think that was my highest CO score, which doesnt mean anything except that flags were changing very fast and very often. A COs score is based mostly on flag captures, and having a score of 173 means there was a lot going on all over the map.

What amazed me was how many people scored over 100 points on the Mashtuur map. Anyone take a screen shot of the final points?

Re: TG vs. FCW scrim 8-26-06

I was in Vipers squad for Mashtur w/snail, whiskey, wilbury, and e-male. We were constantly getting harrassed over at the power station but managed to get the flag back almost everytime I think.

In Oman, I was in the 33rd squad w/Roach, derdmeh, and Bane, and we held the construction site for the whole round. I think the most action I saw was a sniper duel w/some guy named fcw-mexican or something like that (if you read this sorry about chopping up your name!). That was pretty fun.

The last round was probably the funnest because I got to fly the chopper at the east oilfield (something I totally suck at as Dark points out everytime!) and actually did pretty well.

Hats off to beatnik and the gentlemen over at FCW for setting this up! It was a fun scrim and I was glad to be a part of it!

PS- e-male, don't worry about getting DC'ed, that happened to me 3x or so during that time as well!
