Frontline MnM 8-28-06

Fun games! Really kept the battles concentrated, but we were pushing the comfortable limit.

Strag and that Dingo on the anti-air nest map... Couldn't get anything over that wall at the right angle to hit him. Felt good to knife him for revenge

Great games tonight.

I had to quit. When people complain about get owned even though the game is made for this style of play it is time to quit.

Great games for all that showed up.

Re: Frontline MnM 8-28-06

Boring game mode imo. It's fun at first because of the rush for the flags and the big clash in the middle but on both maps I played it just turned into a stalemate between the 2 middle flags with neither team pushing

Re: Frontline MnM 8-28-06

I especially liked the pre-MnM mass Tank battles on that winter map at around 2:30 PST. There were some amazing tank manuevers, even a few full out charges. My personal favorite had to be the infantry/light vehicle battle over town on highway to hell. The constant RPG's screaming out windows into the courtyard were pretty harrowing.

Good stuff tonight, definatley like having the private server set to Frontlines, it's a great mod to run for a small crowd playing around on the private server. When I first joined, there was about 8 people and it was still pretty entertaining. This could definatley be the solution to get low populated servers up to speed during the day?

This afternoons games were as intense as this evenings were. Next week we will try out the Nuke variation. It is suppose to be just as brutal.

I used to love the Nuke style in DC. Should be interesting!

I thought all the maps we played on were excellent. The game mode is 'ok'. but not something I would want to do alot.

Re: Frontline MnM 8-28-06

Frontline is better than AAS, IMO, because the assets don't spawn at the back flags. That was my biggest complaint with AAS -- teams would just gather all the hardware they could and bring it against one single flag and it was a big mess.

There's only one map that is available in Nuke mode. We'll just have to set the server to switch teams at the end of the round and go back and forth... or something.

Re: Frontline MnM 8-28-06

Good gameplay on Frontline. It is a different style of play that really relies on cohesion between the squads. Since some folks arent used to that level of cooperation without a CO, it got bogged down for one side at times. One squad would rush our flag and we would just slaughter them. This happened multiple times over the course of gameplay and lead to some wins with a two hundred point spread. This scenario just requires a different set of skills and tactics is all.

I had a pretty strong group of guys going after taking over for Big Bill. Thanks goes out to Mantis, Bleak, Dustermahn, Luniscix, and Big Bill. Great job everyone.

Re: Frontline MnM 8-28-06

it was ok. Good to play with Mr. Goat and Mr. Blonov and othter Irregs.

i played with some TGers that i have never played with before, so that was good.

The AT kit side arm is o.k. at short/ med range.

Commanders are needed just to help coordinate, but i think we should agree not to use the zoom function. There is a heavy cloud overcast on those snow maps so u could not see anthing anyway.

can't say i am a big fan of tanks with engineer kits in them healing each other as they move along. not much u can do about that though.
The Ukraine side did not have a commander but we managed to get the job done.

Bane pretty much nailed it as well. The teams that got behind by 200 did so because it was apparent there wasnt any planning in their attacks. I kept seeing tanks come at us in ones and twos, and the twos were generally 30 meters apart and unable to heal eachother. The FEW times they flanked us, it was effective and had the rest of their team been on the same page we'd have lost the flag. Also if the enemy tanks were together auto repairing, id have died many times.

Re: Frontline MnM 8-28-06

I only saw a short snippet of it, but what I saw didn't thrill me. It was a map with a long rise, so it didn't seem likely that the team at the top of the hill would ever be overrrun. It also looked like much too much armor was spawning.

Under 20 players and short rounds would probably be a good idea for future FL attempts. If you get into a stalemate, the last thing you want is to attack the same flag for 30 minutes.

Edit: btw, sorry for the lack of special event tonight. I couldn't do it with FL running, and I didn't think everyone would be into the idea of waiting through a restart. I'll save the idea for another day.

Re: Frontline MnM 8-28-06

Even when we moved together on the map we had to choose between moving forward and hope to out run the shots or stay still and just take it. The Ukraine tanks have an advantage aiming wise with their reticules. Add the facts that the germans were forced to attack up hill and against a CP with an abundance of tank spawns it was a very tough fight. You can say "just move in a group" but there was zero cover (made evident by us constantly taking hits almost anywhere between the two CPs) and even when we did make it to the CP there were enough ATs and tanks on defense ready to pick us apart. Im not saying this is a bad thing because attacking is supposed to be brutal, especially a position like the one the Ukraine team had. It certainly was aggrevating and I'm just as guilty of rushing back into the fight without proper support as others but I had some fun and look forward to trying again.

Re: Frontline MnM 8-28-06

Rough night for my side. We didn't win a map and we didn't play as well as a team. For instance, before one round started, I informed the rest of the team that my squad would leapfrog the first flag and hit the second flag. I said that thinking one of the other 2 squads would stop and flip that first flag, and instantly cap the second flag. I even saw a couple different people in other squads say "roger" so I knew we were going to take off quick.

We hopped into a vehicle, dashed off to the second flag only to watch every one else drive past the first flag without stopping. So we had to send Aculle back to cap that first flag. The greatest success we had was in delay spawning and dropping off people 2 at a time out of my jeep at each flag in order to flip them quick. That was the only time our side capped the middle flag for any length of time.

In terms of armor, yea, there was one map where we were bleeding and had the ability to bring one armor piece to bear against an entrenched enemy that had 3 tanks. We also had to make that march with limited cover against the snowy background and because of the long distance between flags, it was very difficult to apply a lot of pressure. I think thats the one Bubba is referring to.

It's too bad that we didn't play the infantry only style maps as those are the best of the bunch. Can't tell you how many times I had my squad join in only to have the entire squad get overrun by armor. Too bad their isn't more worthwhile hiding places on a lot of those maps as those hills as so smooth. The ditches to hide in are few and far between.
