Artillery practice anyone ?

The mobile atillery is one of the most intriging aspects of POE to me. I really like the idea of a small dedicated squad working as a team with a spotter or two and a gunner. The idea of providing artillery support on the basis of who needs it is really cool. Being in one corner of the map with the arty tube while your spotters are out roaming these huge maps seems realistic to me and I'd like to make it happen. (thanks for the inspiration Killrog !!)

Anyhow...I'd like to become proficient firing the arty and also spotting and adjusting incoming arty. I don't think a busy server with a battle going on is the right approach to doing that and I'm posting here to see if anyone is interested in heading off to an unoccupied server for a half or so to practice this as a small team--taking turns spotting and firing.

PM me or reply to this post. I'd like to do this asap...I'm on in the evenings, generally after 7 or 8 p.m.

What do you say?

Re: Artillery practice anyone ?

I am back.

no practice.

Like Big Gay Al said, u need to be in the seat to recive a transmission, so u can't drive up to a ridge and take your own pictures and jump into the Arty.

Those on the server were doing chopper practice, so no spotters were found.

I did not wont to get in the commander seat and use the zoom functins cause the CO should not focus their time on arty. It should take a arty gunner to foucs on the job. The spotters and CO will help them do their job better.

Re: Artillery practice anyone ?

I think the best arrangement is a squad with one arty guy and one or two snipers who are dedicated to finding spots and calling out adjustments.

Re: Artillery practice anyone ?

Most of the time there is a dedicated sniper squad, so you could join them.

Re: Artillery practice anyone ?

@ powersmoker...I'll be on this evening...join up on TS and we'll get something going...

@ Ric...why don't you join us this evening for arty practice on an unoccupied server...we'll practice for a while then hop on the TG POE server and put it to work.

I'll be on TS later this evening and look for you both.

Anyone else who is interested reply back here or shout on on TS later tonight.

I'm interested, is the private server still running Frontline or can we use that?

Re: Artillery practice anyone ?

9 is good...we can find out about server 2 later tonight... I'm not sure the frontline game mode has an artillery piece. I'll PM an admin to see...

As SM's, you are welcome to request whatever you like on the private server, as long as nobody has booked it for other stuff. Let an admin know on TS if you need anything changed, or a particular map loaded.

Re: Artillery practice anyone ?

I've pretty much got the arty system nailed down. Pretty good at it.

I'm very interested, hopefully I can get around to renewing my membership tonight so I can actually play

I'll be on fairly late though (after 9) if anyone is still around.

Re: Artillery practice anyone ?

There's no real "teaching" to do...if you know how the grenade launcher in BF2 works you know how the arty works. It's just a matter of using it and getting the feel for it.
