9/4 Games
I hopped into the server tonight in the middle of Rolling Thunder. I started my own squad for the Ukranian side and helped put the finishing touches on a Ukranian rout over the Germans. With Zhytomyr coming up next, I swapped sides hoping to make an impact to help the Germans finally win that map.
The Germans fight uphill against the Ukranians. My plan was to hold the middle flag and the upper two flags creating bleed and a solid forward line between the farms. With the 8 squads I had available, I sent multiple squads to attack the flags, typically with instructions to hit the flags at the same time. We held strong at the northernmost flags, but lost the middle flag. Squad 5 (SL is unknown) and Squad 9 (Tybalt) snagged the Goat Farm allowing the Germans to stay in contention. There were some wicked fights as the Ukranians rained down fire from their tanks on the hill. In the meantime, Goatboy struck for the Ukranian back flag and did take it. Their timing couldn't have been better as they took it at the same time as we lost the Chicken Farm. Inspite of having bleed, we were still losing tickets like mad being on defense. Mantis headed a sniper squad providing solid overwatch for squads 2,3 and 4 who handled the nothern front against coordinated and at times overwhelming vehicle pushes on their flags. Overall, very close game up until the server crash. Fallen was first up on reboot. This time I was back on the Ukranian side. My squad filled with Tybalt, Rocketpunch, MoreGooder, Porsch997, Sparks and SirJarbo. The fights at the Northern Cabin were epic. The Germans took the flag to start and gave us heck as we crossed the river from the lumbermill. We couldn't make headway against their snipers until we filled the area with smoke. After that, it was see saw battles with the 12th (Whiskey, Drizzid, TG-7thAbra, and hired mercs) until we could finally draw them off the flag. Tremendous back and forth fights which made for great gaming. Orel was a good map for our squad as MoreGooder, Craze, Porsch997, Tybalt, Tau Neutrino and Freeno helped make that a win for the Ukranians. We had some great fights at the Church, Backyard and also saw action at the outpost. Best fighting happened around the Church early and the Backyard later. Excellent games tonight! Re: 9/4 Games
Holding Goat Farm seems to be the ticket to winning that flag. Location, location location! It's the realestate value I suppose. But, with mortgage rates these days, I think that the property is changing hands FAR too often.

Another highlight of the round was after you captured N.Cabin. We spawned at Trenches and moved north - our goal was to move between N.Cabin and LumberMill and then attack LumberMill from the north-east. It was really a thing of beauty - I gave orders to move at a slow walk in column formation with Drizzid on point as assault ("watch left drizz"), and ABRA second as support ("ABRA, you're watching right"). Along we went - creeping through the "jungle"... by FAR the most immersive experience I've had in quite a few months. "Contact Left!" someone yelled... watching on the minimap, the caterpillar of dots turned left and opened fire... <sniffle> beautiful. We reformed and started creeping north again, when on my minimap, I see two other squads (no CO at the time) sprinting through the woods.. past us directly to lumber mill - must have been 8-10 guys that rushed the flag and took it ....oh well ![]()

Re: 9/4 Games
I hope so as well, though it really requires some quality squad-members, and good 'chemistry'. It was obvious that everyone in the squad "got it" - that a squad is a single entity with 6 guns, not 6 random guys that can talk to each other. They all must have been using their mini-map quite a bit, because everyone maintained good spacing (so as to defend the broadest possible front, etc.), and were giving excellent sit-reps ("2 plus contacts N.E., just crossing river now").
I was particularly impressed with the team-play of Thanatos, who I hadn't seen on the server before, but was wearing TG tags. His radio usage was fantastic, always stating his name, and what he was doing... "Thanatos, in possition south, eyes west"...

Re: 9/4 Games
I was SL'ing on Fallen, and unfortunately I don't recall who was all in my squad (I know I had asch, and one of the Banes...sorry guys), but it was a really solid group.
It was actually the first time I'd played that map, and we spent most of our time around the Crash Site CP. I was not feeling particularly inspired in my squad leading so I'm afraid it was a pretty lackluster performance on my part. I doubt I would be inclined to dig the enemy out of Trenches again...w/out serious backup. I spent a good amount of time trying to anticipate the moves our allied squads were going to make and then support them, or adjust based upon their situation. I recall at one point seeing one of our squads moving north east of Crash Site towards another CP and watching a bunch of "been killed" icons show up on the mini-map. I sent our squad up there since we were close by and would be approaching the (as yet unseen) enemy from the flank...that seemed to work out ok, but there were no fire-fights that didn't seem costly. Thanks to my squad for sticking it out through an uninspired round!! Although, there was no shortage of action... ![]() Cheers. |

Thanks for reminding me who else was in the squad. I know you were being kept busy as the medic, you certainly revived me a bunch of times! It was pretty intense...I'd like to go back there and get killed some more ![]() Cheers. |

Re: 9/4 Games
Thanks for the commendation Whiskey,
I've just come back to BF2 after a long hiatus. I got my start in TG playing Natural Selection - I remember guys like Wyzcrak, Tempus and Pokerface before they ever became admins, even, heh. The game was extremely good - our hold on North Cabin was absolute for most of the game despite coming heavy fire repeatedly. Lucky Shot's squad caused us some considerable grief. At one point, I acquired a sniper kit somehow, exchanging it for my usual medic kit (possibly resulting from a friendly kit switch/revive). If you have a sniper in your squad, you can use the claymores in creative ways by setting up advance booby traps. If you notice them go off (especially if they both go), not only have you effectively 'spotted' an enemy squad, you might also have cost the opposing team two tickets. Don't use the claymores directly on the CP - it's a large friendly fire risk and easily predictable by the enemy. I had put my two claymores on the far side of the riverbank. It took about 5 minutes for them to go off, but when they did, we knew exactly where Lucky's guys were coming from and when. |

Re: 9/4 Games
good idea about the the claymores... with two snipers on a squad, this could add considerable length to a defensive line.
