6-Sep-06, ~22:00PDT on PoE - Tank Traps
Unfortunately I don't remember the map name, but it's got a river running northwest to southeast with the AntiAir Nest CP smack in the middle...I'm sure this description doesn't help much.
Anyway I had a squad with Elmeistro1, Calvin, tonyendre, SkinGolem, and HEEBRW...we were on the UKR team. We had lot's of fun north of the Town CP setting up armour traps. The GER armour had 2 choices to move south, and if they came towards Town they ran into plenty of nastiness. It was one of the first times I ran an organized ambush...they're a lot of fun. I may do that more often ![]() Cheers. |

We set-up mines on the road and then took hidden positions on both sides of the road, further up. The trap was positioned within site of our CP. Tanks would typically see the mines and slow down to maneuver or engage our CP from that stalled point. This put my squad (heavy with RPGs) behind the enemy armour. No tank or APC survived. They either got smoked by RPG rounds or inadvertently maneuvered into mines while trying to escape. From the tanker's point of view he would not have seen where the shots were coming from. A hit to his left side, he looks left (by then my guy was prone and hidden again) sees nothing, then gets hit on the right. A bit of an exploit worked in our favour as well, in that the enemy armour appears on the minimap when not occupied, but ofcourse once an enemy soldier grabs the tank it disappears from the mini-map. This tipped us off that we were about to have visitors...in fact we would get about 20 seconds notice before the next 40 tonne victim would roll in...that is if he came down the main road towards us (they could have gone another route, but that route was longer and less direct). Also, we could easily hear the tanks approaching as well. We started to feel particularly evil so we then started sneaking into the location where the armour spawned and planted mines at the unoccupied vehicles...the enemy jumps into the tank (possibly irate at being ambushed down the road a minute before), drives 2 feet, and boom. Having the AT kit in PoE equipped with RPGs and mines was also very helpful...a few AT kits, a support kit or two and we were good to go. Cheers. |

The rest of your story I liked. I'm a big fan of making AT traps myself.

My apologies to anyone who was feeling unfairly attacked, and to my squad for putting them in that situation. Cheers. |

Ok - goatee, understood. The problem is that that armor is very tempting; when you want to attack from the south flag to the east flag (non-ucb's), you will pass through that location. bit odd.
