Tactical Mod Sunday 9/10

We had anywhere between 18-25 players tonight for some intense battles. It was great to see squads communicating, breaking down into fire-teams, using suppressive fire, and bounding overwatch. We're really starting to see the careful planning and execution take place.

Excellent games! I had a great time.

Re: Tactical Mod Sunday 9/10

Yeah that was really awesome again tonight. Sorry I bailed out those 2 times. My connection was going haywire. Those maps we played were awesome. We need to play Inishail sometime as well. I haven't played that in a long time. I'm really liking Operation Frog a lot. The dark atmosphere makes play a little more intense.

I guess what I don't like about POE2 is that it's almost too fast paced. Tacmod tonight was a perfect change of pace. We could actually plan strategies and have time to execute those strategies. Like on Jibbel City where when we lost square we were able to flank around west and head up north through the mosque area and attack road construction from that point. It was fun escaping fire there along the eastern wall and slowly making my way up north to preserve the spawn point for our squad and allow another route of attack.

Thumbs up! Really good fun tonight.

Re: Tactical Mod Sunday 9/10

I finally got a chance to actually try the Tac Mod tonite, and I must say that it was an amazing experience. Utterly dfferent than every other flavor of BF2 I've tried, and the first one that eally seemed to have a sane pace. None of the crazed charging into gunfights. Everything very deliberate and VERY deadly.

The long respawn times and numerous other details really make one careful. And of course as the FNG of the evening, I was a little more careful than everyone else. In fact I got the #1 low score for deaths on the Mashtuur map; mainly because I spent most of the round under a couch in the apartment. I peeked my head out long enough to score a few hits for our side, but mainly I just tried to not chew up tickets due to sheer noobousity.

Many thanks to everyone who gave me tips, put up with me, and kept me out of trouble. You are a great crew, and I'm looking forward to more Tac Mod rounds!

cheers
Inca

Me too, the terrain looks great and is perfect for tac-mod. You can crawl from one flag to another and not be spotted until you're within the capture radius. Plus the capture logic makes such an assault real intense because once the flag goes neutral you have too find and take out the defenders for it to turn.

Also, sorry to my squad for leaving so soon, real-life meant no gaming past 3 am this time. I am all for sacrificing sleep and all that, but my lab supervisor disagrees...

Re: Tactical Mod Sunday 9/10

Kept getting disconnected sorry to Cain and my squad. I had a great time while I was actual in-game.

I want to apologize to I believe Jaymind. I used an AT round on him short range, something I definately hold myself to a better standard than doing. I need to explain myself. I had skirted the combat zone solo to the north. I knew from spots that the enemy tank was deployed just outside the flag cap area.

As I approached from slightly behind where I thought the tank was, smoke suddenly was deployed. At the time, I thought this was the tank protecting itself from our tank and was thinking to myself it must be hurt. I charged towards the smoke with my AT out going for a kill from behind. Then an enemy soldier popped up literaly 5 feet in front of me and I fliched with my AT rocket and shot it at him. I HATE this use of the rocket and I apologize, but did want to say I had a reason to be charging at the smoke with my AT Gun out and had no idea there was an infantry squad there.

Re: Tactical Mod Sunday 9/10

These nights seem to be getting better every time. Plans made seem to actually have effect; a good plan will work. You are forced to consider the geography and structures on a flag, trying to determine what buildings will give you dominance and when.

You have time to ask a squadmate to cover you BEFORE you rush out. On vanilla you would be shot in the back by a lone gunman before you leave cover.

Thanks to all participators - gg.
IncaMing, nice job.

Re: Tactical Mod Sunday 9/10

We had some fantastic games last night, which has become the norm for tac mod nights. There's something to be said when a third of the players on a given side make it through an entire 45 minute round without a single death. As a squad leader, I think I made it through two rounds without dying (I was revived a few times). Thanks E-Male, Grunt and BigGayAl for strong defensive work (and some offensive) as well as a IncaMing, a newcomer to Tacmod, who took orders well and remembered to keep his head down during those long firefights. Our greatest enemy of the evening was Coridon, who killed us in many different ways. To the other passers-by in my squad, sorry I did not mention your names. Remind me of who you are. Great work all!

Edit - I would again like to congratulate TG and the TacMod team for creating a fantastically simple yet extrodinarily effective tactical mod for this game. I can't tell you how many times I've been engaged in a long-haul firefight and thought "only in tacmod." Thanks to all who develop it, and all who play it.

Re: Tactical Mod Sunday 9/10

Sunday was my first go at the tactical mod, must say it was alot of fun. As others have already mentioned its a totally different approach to playing bf2, I found it really refreshing. The map choices also seemed spot on for the number of people on the server; the squad leaders I had also did a great job keeping our squad organized and ready to defend or attack effectively.
