TacMod Thursday 9/14/06

I had a super-great time guys (and girls!) though for the second TacMod night in a row OpFor pulled out a string of victories even though both sides seemed to be pretty balanced with strong players evenly distributed.

Tonight started with 64p PORT FEAR so gameplay was pretty goofy until Beatnik came and reset the server so the map sizes would be determined by number of players.

The first "real" map was OPERATION FROG, which I've decided is just like playing Inishail while wearing a welder's mask. Since I normally don a welding mask while sitting at my PC I'm doubly handicapped; I'm so blind that when I flip up my visor I find I'm not even facing my monitor anymore, so I curse and thrown the damn mask onto the floor and resume playing with nothing shielding me from the radiation searing my face.

I do feel PLA has a distinct advantage on FROG with it's superior CQC weapons, but USMC can definitely win if their squads work together in coordinated attacks on the same flag. From the Chinese perspective, this didn't appear to happen so PLA just dug in and won the round playing solid D.

OPERATION PHOENIX was next and USMC capture all three MEC flags at one time or another but OpFor was able to hold the other two whenever this occured. I think Phoenixfire took out my whole squad at one time at the CONSTRUCTION SITE; he must believe the map is named after him or something.

Last map I played was JIBBEL CITY and USMC rolled hard early, capping both ROAD CONSTRUCTION and SQUARE near the beginning of the round. I was momentarily anxious since we were pushed to our last flag, but we drove right back, with Jmaker's squad retaking RC while we secured the SQUARE. We dug in at the square and finished the round with a solid lead, even though I actually believe USMC had the advantage on that map with longer range weapons.

Good games!

Thanks to everyone who passed through my squad:

Aculle
Drunknsoul
Dirt013
BigGayAl
Luna

Hope I didn't forget anybody; you folks played great together!

It looks like there was some great 10v10 action going on. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make Thurs night... but I'm looking forward to Sunday.

"Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine, regardless of the level of advantage, if any, it gives over the opposing team." -- Tactical Gamer Primer

Good write up. Again it was another fun night.

I don't know how hard you guys were getting hit there on Phoenix at Construction but I did have 3 of my guys help you out, since we saw very little action at our flag to the south.

Re: TacMod Thursday 9/14/06

I had a blast for what time I could stay in game. Was in Grunt's squad for Operation Pheonix and that was great because I got to learn some stuff with him. I still need to learn a bunch more .

Usually by the second or third map I start having disconnect problems, and its driving me nuts. I haven't figured out what's going on yet, but once it happens I can't stay connected for more than about 15 steps before I get DCed.

I got to play Operation Frog as well, and that was a lot of fun, but one of the USMC squads didn't have an experienced leader anywhere in the group, so we had troubles doing much of anything against the well organized defense.

Thanks again for the great time guys!

I'm also having dc problems so my gameplay is usually limitted to a single map. Was in E-males squad on Op Pheonix and we just struggled to dislodge the opfor. They threw up a huge defence at the central flags. Great rounds to all.

Good job as SL Coridon...some great gameplay. Was nice to see Luna playing an FPS as well, instead of off pretending to be an Elf or some other such nonsense.

LOL

I had actually waited out on an awning, for about 5 minutes, on the southern building, while you were all just running by me. When I decided to give it a go, well....let's just say that a well grouped defense, means that you all go down faster

Good, tight, games.

First Tactical Mod night i've been able to attend in full, i'm usually working on Thursday until 10pm and Sunday, i have DnD..

I was in JMaker's squad, I believe, and really loved the Operation Phoenix map. I'm 90% of the time a medic, so i fit right in with the defense of the squad and team as a whole. I'm impressed with his leadership, as well as the whole general communication and cooperation with everyone in the game, even though I'm sure I just looked like a bumbling fool.

Two thumbs up! will play again, definitely! I'm usually on the PoE2 #2 server...
