Question Brick and Mortar or EA Downloader?

Whose planning on buying 2142 the old fashioned way or thru EA's downloader service?

Personally, I'm still up in the air about where I'm buying. I like running out and buying a game the old brick and mortar way, but I have both Steam and EA, and I like getting games that way as well.

It's nice to have the box and manual, looking thru aisles of games, but it's also convenient getting the game without a box and manual and the EA downloader has worked well for me when I purchased the expansions.

Gimme some direction!

Re: Brick and Mortar or EA Downloader?

Given that the BF2 manual was next to useless I see no reason to get a physical copy unless you happen to find it cheaper somewhere.

Mix of both, internet order from a brick & mortar store website.

Re: Brick and Mortar or EA Downloader?

I would like to have the CD or DVD of the game. Also, the EA servers are probably going to be swamped with all of the people downloading multiple GB's of data.

Re: Brick and Mortar or EA Downloader?

I bet EA release through EA downloader a day or two before bricks and mortar shops,
to encourage purchase through their downloader as its more profitable for them,
at least thats what i would do in their position

Re: Brick and Mortar or EA Downloader?

If I buy BF2142, I'm buying it on the EA Downloader. I bought BF2: Special Forces like that, and it was super easy. I see no point in buying something that I could break or lose when I can just have the game tied to my EA account.

Re: Brick and Mortar or EA Downloader?

why do you think steam is so popular? I love how i can just go on my friends comp and log into my account and play my games. How cool is that? I already pre ordered before i knew it was going to be on the downloader so i guess im stuck actually going outside and being social

Re: Brick and Mortar or EA Downloader?

I rarely play games for more than a few years.. BF42 and BF2 will likely be the exception to that, but I FAR prefer to have a downloader vs a DVD that can easily get lost or destroyed. Steam is great when I re-format or reinstall, I just click download and I have all my steam games back, fully patched and setup in the next 24 hours without a second of extra effort.

I think I'm going to go the downloader route since I imagine ea downloader won't be going away any time soon.

Re: Brick and Mortar or EA Downloader?

I already pre ordered it through outpost.com, so I'll have the actual dvd of the game. I just like to have the main game as a physical copy. It's only a few feet away and I'll never lose it or worry about damaging it since I've not had to open the case but twice, the first time installing the game, and the second time installing it after I reformatted.

I'm waiting to hear what TG is doing about a server to decide whether I'm getting the game or not. Has a decision been made?

Same here. I'm way too dependent on TG now.

I don't care to play it anywhere else and if that means I don't play it at all, then that's what will happen. There is always Armed Assault.
