Last Nights PW Night

9/30-10/1 PW Night...

Had a blast last night playing for the Ukraine team. Great battles around the North Cabin. My hats off to Troublesome4U (and at times Beatnik) who I believe was the opposing SL at that flag. Seemed like we were able to take the flag quickly, but the enemy squad was always right there focing us right back off. It was about a third through the game before we were able to finally hold that flag. Props to ShakeyJake, BaseTrip, Goatboy, TheDirty and Marstein who did the heavy lifting for our squad. Shakey did phenominal with 67 kills for us. Emale was the CO for the Germans and we had no one. Although we were able to cut the deficiet from the previous Carpathian Mountains, it was clear that having a CO led to to a German advantage.

Zhytomyr was up next, and although I feel that the Ukrainians have an advantage, the fighting was still tough. Personally, I wasn't effective until I hopped into armor as the armor allows you multiple chances to kill your enemy (AND THE UKRAINE TANK GETS A TV MISSLE?). We moved for the Chicken Farm first and snagged it early. We did lose that flag and spent most of the remainder of our fighting defending the Goat Farm. Good battle that led to a Ukrainian victory (think the first of the night). Well done to Leonidas, Shakey, Goatboy, TheDirty, and BaseTrip. Their CO was Xcannon, we wen't COless.

Battle of Sambir, I felt our squad was very effective although we weren't effective as an entire team. We moved to the South Farm early in order to have a flag in the Germans back yard. We did finally make our move to the East Farm which was our initial plan and held that for the rest of the round. Apart from the frequent chopper and occasional lone wolf AA tank we were left on our own. Eventually the Germans slowly took every other flag but ours until the round ended. I am curious to hear what happened on the rest of the map. Good job on that round to Leonidas, Shakey, Grunt, Basetrip, RocketPunch, NotOneofUs, and Melee. Their CO was CantpicknameIwant, we went COless. Sambir was a close loss.

Dnister River Valley, the map was shifted to the 32 player which made for closer fighting. We again went up against Troublesome's squad who took some solid positioning to the south of the East Bridge flag we held. It took us a while to clean them out, even lost the flag at one point, before we were able to grab it back. I still struggle with the placement of the arty marker, but we were able to make it through that. Personally, had a record amount of kills in one round on people named Wimpinator at about 15. Great job to NotOneofUS, Shakey, Grunt, BaseTrip and Melee who helped us hold that East Bridge for as long as we did. Solid rounds!

The level of coordination on PW nights has increased every week which increases the challenge for sure. Great games and can't wait for the next one!

Commander’s Report
Germany
Rivne
Fallen
Carpathian Mountains

Including screen shots of the final positions and score.

For the second night in a row I deployed as CO and used the Defensive Triangle Strategy (see related link, http://http//www.tacticalgamer.com/b...strategy.html").

All squads executed orders without delay. No discipline problems. No rogue players or lone wolfs.

Noteworthy: We won three in a row with a preponderance of non-TG players in the role as SL.

Some new regular names you will recognize conducted themselves as excellent SLs,
including the Riven Team SLs: Rockford, Notoneofus, Daddycracker, Streaker, and TG Calvin;
Fallen Team SLs: Moregooder, RegaldeMeurta, Moregooder, along with TG regulars Blood and Thundeer
Carp Mountain SLs: Dragon, Lusser (TG?), Leonidas, and Rockford again.

This large number of new players to TG who are stepping up as SLs and following my orders suggests that TG's PoE has some good months ahead.

Squad leaders exercised great care to stay alive, I notice many maintaining a spawn point to the rear of the action thus allowing repeated come-backs after nearly being wiped out. Flags occasionally lost were often quickly regained, and we generally maintained a strong lead over the enemy in all rounds, although Fallen was a challenge.

Three final map images are included below.

That Fallen map tells me quite a bit actually. We were defending that north cabin flag and there is definitely more than one squad attacking that flag. We couldn't hold that flag for more than a minute or two after we would take it. Even after we would wipe out 4 guys it seemed like 6 guys were rushing the flag. I couldn't figure out if they had a couple amazing medics but Goatboy hit it on the head when he said that he felt that there was more than 1 squad out there.

Re: Last Nights PW Night

So who's squad was I terrorizing with the anti-material rifle on Zhytomyr? I just kept picking them off over and over the entire round as they came over this hill crest. Lots of snipers went hunting for me but I don't think they ever figured out where I was? Had a nasty kill count when it was all over.

Sambir UKR: I wanted to run an AA squad with drizzid and lily but it was obvious we would be using up too many resources. Thus we kind of did a hybrid squad that just tried to hold the flag closest to the UCB the entire round while we harassed the air. Lost the flag several times since we were just a squad of 3 but we usually got it back quickly. I figured if we hold that easy flag then Luckys full squad could easily hold another and the other full squad could go for bleed. Things just didn't work out that well though.

Dnister UKR: Started in Whiskeys squad. We held the Island for a while...later though too many of us wondered off trying to ambush armor so we lost the flag. Then we had difficulty getting a flag back. Since Whiskey was without a mic he gave up the SL to me...its not too hard to SL with no mic when on defense but its much more difficult when trying to organize an attack. Anyway...I grabbed an APC and crossed on the far north of the map. The Eurocopter nailed our APC but I had bailed early in the water and was able to get ashore safely. We took a while to get to our destination and the tickets were getting closer and closer. When push came to shove though we made a solid attack on the bridge base near the German UCB. Taking that flag secured the win that was looking iffy for a while there. GG

E-Male, I can't take credit for being SL on Fallen, I was but a loyal follower. I was in troublesome4u's squad all night, Fallen included.

Likewise, I was not SL on Carpathian Mountains but troublesome4u was. He did an amazing job coordinating the squad. Fantastic squad leading. Major props.

That was a fun round. Defending the Island CP is pretty easy with a six man squad... mine the hell out of the water-crossing to the E and blow the bridge to the S. Then it's a matter of not dying from long-range armor fire. We (or at least I) got kinda bored after about 20 minutes of no action and so I decided to have some fun trying to setup a tank trap: mine the far shoreline, and then have 2 AT's waiting in the hills beyond - when the tank stops for mines, [plink] [plink] <smoke><BOOM>. Unfortunately getting that across over squad-chat is rough w/ all the spotting going on... won't try that again without a mic! (at least not with a full squad not used to such tactics )

and of COURSE afer a minute or two of that, some ninja pirates swam around and capped from the N

(similar to the phenomenon where the SL stays alive for 25 minutes, and then the SECOND he dies 100m away from the flag, the flag goes neutral )

mmm.. some nights I have to play sans mic because I'm on duty (sleeping 4-month old baby). It's actually quite a good exercise in SL'ing because it forces you to use the commo rose to direct the squad. But you're right - setting up Defense is easy and fun ("Mine Here", "Destroy Here", "Move Here")... but on offense.... phew - that's tough...

anyway - thanks for taking over mantis.
