Had a couple of sweet minutes with the game just now before I had to leave for work...

So far it was something different... But I did enjoy the little battles I had. Plus shooting a gun is awesome now. no more X marking your hits...

Anyway more to come from these demoers or myself when i get home...

Yep, now you get a little circle instead!
So far the demo hasn't impressed me much at all. Everything about it seems very "been there, done that". Hopping around inside a titan makes me think of Dystopia, the vehicles are nothing special and not being able to access basic items like the defibrilator or grenades without unlocks has just been an annoyance.

I dunno man, it's pretty cool. I've never played Dystopia so the Titan is new for me and the vehicles are spot on - Tanks, APC's, Walkers, Hover Jets. The unlocks are not make or brake for me - we just need them in an unranked server for TG.

And of course you have been there and done that, it's a Battlefield game - they all seem to play very similarly - which is a good thing!

whoa....there are no unlocks allowed in the demo? thats kinda dumb.

Uh, no, he meant you can't access the items until you unlock them. In the beta, at least, I got field promotions all the time, so before you even earn your first rank you can start unlocking stuff.

I get an error box "d3dx9_29.dll not found" and bf2142.exe refuses to start. Anyone else see this? My fix would be to find d3dx9_28.dll and copy it with the name it wants. What wrong with my directX?

any possibility gettin the client in the members download section???

EDIT - IMPORTANT!!! If you have any interest in the game wait until the reviews start pouring out and dont use the demo as your guideline if youre going to get it or not. Since 2142 has such a deep unlock system, its pointless to play without them. I was already reading that even though people love the game, the demo sucks because the unlocks are what makes 2142 interesting. So play it if you will but really take it with a grain of salt as the kits have only their basic loadouts. Wait for the reviews before you decide.

3 key observations of demo

1) as squad leader you cannot set orders for your squad
it appears as if you can just accept orders from commander
or maybe you have no choice the commanders orders are just automatically issued
2) reserved names appear not to be available, I suspect that whatever name you create is just for the demo
3) you cant seem to get points to your BF2142 account (maybe just demo account) and thereby cannot get unlocks

the new map's pretty interesting, better than the beta map

Putting my objections to EA's unlock system as a whole to one side, not being able to access really basic weaponry like grenades or a defibrilator in the demo is...astoundingly stupid.

FYI, the demo is on the newsgroups in case anyone does not want to wait until tomorrow or even Saturday.

I'll say it again; you can access all these and more through field upgrades without ever earning a rank.
