Oct 17 CO's Video and Report: Lutsk

E-Male COing for Ukraine

Video of the Commander's screen is available at:

http://www.tacticalsites.com/~e-male/

Screen capture rate at every 3 seconds.

This was a password night, which brings out the best of TG et al, so no discipline problems and minimal direction from me was required. One smaller, non-TG squad was eager to be on the attack, so I eventually placed them in a forward defensive position -- a good command strategy for dealing with less disciplined squads and keeping everyone happy.

RESOURCES:

Four full squads, three of which were led by very experinced TG SLs, and a fifth one-person squad (also a top-notch TGer).

STRATEGY -- "Strong Centre":

Deploy my three best squads to defend central flags, cutting enemy off from too-quickly taking the rear flags, place non-TG squad in an advance defense position (meatgrinder), and use smallest one-two man squad for support and spotting.

Squads more or less defended a flag throughout the entire round with very little movement of resources. No reserve squad was available.

Main flags held were Castle, Log Cabin and South Village, which created a strong defensive line running North to South. No attempt was made to hold the two back flags, as this would have compromised force ratios in the strong centre. As predicted, the enemy broke through our lines and captured two back flags eight minutes into the battle, but this merely strengthened our centre and diluted their attacks. Aside from one brief attack by a non-TG squad disobeying defend orders, no advance was made on back flags until final moments of the battle.

Minimal CO spotting was used.

ANALYSIS:

Within eight minutes we gained a 100 point lead.

Any attempt to shore-up or retake back flags would have lost our lead and strong centre advantages.

Excellent SL discipline was the key to victory.

Last 7:15 minutes saw the following point degradation:

Germany lost 102 points
Ukraine lost 83 points

The strong centre tactic delivered a resounding defeat to the enemy, 181-0 for Ukraine.

Thanks again to all,

E-Male

Re: Oct 17 CO's Video and Report: Lutsk

The biggest thing I noticed, the Germans did not have a CO and we took too long moving in towards back flags especially for what we should have determined was good strength at the front flags. The German's really didn't get going until after we took the Farm, North Village and then finally getting armor assistance in towards the village to support the squads attacking that flag. Had we reacted quicker, I think it would have been a different game. Good defense though by the Ukraine at the South Village and Log Cabins in particular. I can't believe how close the squad I was in was to the CO and we never knew it.

Re: Oct 17 CO's Video and Report: Lutsk

Indeed, I was COing from an enemy flag for MOST of the game! Only was killed by pj223 in the last two minutes (almost messed up by video as a result!).

Yes, it would have been VERY different if the Germans were organized under a CO. I would have held the castle (very hard to attack), and two flags with most armour in that instance, I suspect.

Never feels quite like a victory when we win against a CO-less enemy.

I wish I had a printout that detailed each flag's resources. I am still a bit lacking in such knowledge -- a grave weakness for a CO.
