Unlocks and you (and us)

This may be silly, but I was thinking that since that a large portion of the TG community didn't purchase this game, or won't - those of us that did will probably be playing together alot.

Because of this, it actually might make some sense for us to specialize - at least in the beginning, before we all start getting most of the unlocks.

take a look here:

http://bf2142fever.com/content/Unlocks

As a squad, we are more effective the more diverse we are. I really noticed that with the netbat system. With a full squad, having a diverse netbat is almost cheating, I can see people behind walls, cloaked, know their health, etc. It's amazing. Once I got the recon SL unlock, I always had the heads up on approaching enemies.

I've decided to start off getting the non kit abilities. In one night of playing I unlocked grenades, sprint, squad leader beacon, and squad leader recon. I plan on continuing up this route to get the squad leader gun drone, the other sprint upgrade --> then moving on to kit specialization. I'll come back later for the ammo upgrade and extra grenade, as I don't really see those being critical or that useful.

This means I'm going to specialize in being an SL, first and foremost, as I like playign this role.

Since squads really do have an advantage over smaller or non squadded players - I think we should all specialize FIRST, so that when we play together we have access to the most powerful upgrades across a diversity of kits.

Sure there's more than 6 of us, but I'm guessing this thread might prevent 5 of us from all going up the support tree, or something similar. This also means when you are in a squad (or at least one that I am SLing), you are going to almost always be playing your 'specialized' kit. As we all grow in rank and unlocks, we can start to mix up what we play, but for now this seems the best route.

So there you have it.

BHack: Specializing in SL unlocks.

B: So far I have the Assault NetBat(ID infantry), Shotgun, and Grenade Launcher, reviver,

SL beacon

The next unlocks I am aiming for are the Global unlocks, Grenades and sprint boosts... and finish up the SL unlocks.

So far I got all 8 support unlocks. I am loving the shotgun. Will probabaly go with Engineer unlocks next. On heavy vehicle maps, the support doesnt do a heck of alot besides look pretty.

Re: Unlocks and you (and us)

Remember, the idea here is to avoid all of us getting the same unlocks.

Obviously there is going to be more than one medic, more than one SL, etc. But if you don't see yourself being the SL type, please don't waste early unlocks on that equipment, etc.

Sounds like B and I are taking a similar route. I too was planning on going heavy assault, all the way up to the unlock gun, then grabbing defibs from the medic tree.

It might be beneficial for 2 or 3 of you to go straight up the medic side of the assault tree.

Smile Re: Unlocks and you (and us)

I'm focusing on Engineer and I've gotten the EMP mine (love that mine - something about stalling a Walker or Tank and knowing the driver is panicking seems cool) than I'll acquire the Dys Tek for quicker repairs and the motion mine (another fun one) then the Defuser and NetBat Vehicle. I used a couple unlocks for the defib in the assualt class and grenades.

If I remember correctly, I got four unlocks in four rounds, which is pretty quick, as I'm usually slow acquiring points regardless of the game.

I'll most likely be specializing in (yawn) assault, but I could go support too if people would like.

Re: Unlocks and you (and us)

Hmm... since a lot of people have already picked medic or engineer, I guess it's time for me to learn how to play a different kit. I suppose I'll go with the Spec-Ops route, ala the Recon kit.

Assault has some cool features. PK-74 AR Rocket, with the rocket dentention burst setting (all kinds of tactics could be used with that weapon) and the shotgun, which have saved my life numerous times. I was thinking of Assault and that's my next focus.

Re: Unlocks and you (and us)

Maus - Could you focus on support?

FatKid - we'll need an upgraded vehicle killer. Why don't you continue to go up the engineer path, specifically the anti vehicle side? That weapon unlock looks to completely maim vehicles.

I'm planning to go for Engine->AntiVehicle and Support->Heavy Machine gun route.

Later on I'll unlock full sniper for lone-wolfing

Re: Unlocks and you (and us)

I've already unlocked the frags (can't have a fragfest without frags) and the defibs. Since I'm already moving in that direction, I figure I'll just fill out the medic/assault tree first. Although, I had a real good time with the basic support gun last night. Lots of firepower. I could see that being my next step after medic/assault.

Re: Unlocks and you (and us)

Cool, we need medics, thanks kestrel. Plus those smoke grenades are handy on the titan.

Re: Unlocks and you (and us)

I already went up the Medic Ladder and I have the Squad Leader Beacon. I should've stopped at the smoke grenade and let the field upgrades take me the rest of the way.

I'm going to specialize up one more ladder (engineer or sniper) and then I'm going to start spreading my unlocks out so I can take better advantage of Field Upgrades.

Edit:
At least that was my plan pending any needed changes.

Re: Unlocks and you (and us)

I was going to get the engineer unlocks, but I don't consider them very useful. I want to get the support kit's sentry drone, all of the recon unlocks, plus the low teir assault unlocks.
