I've found the EMP to be highly effective against armour and infantry. There are alot of uses with the EMP, be it a mine, hand grenade or the launcher on the APC. My two personal favorites: the APC launcher and the hand grenade.
The APC, combined with it's EMP launcher, is a Tank and Walker equalizer. Initially, I viewed the tanks or Walkers as having a one to one advantage over the APC. The tanks cannon and Walkers cannon and rockets can be devastating. Firepower which the APC does not have. However, the EMP launcher counters the Tanks and Walkers advantages. Immoblizing an opponent with the EMP is a great way to combine defense with offense or vice versa. There are many creative ways to put this to use. One would be to use the APC when defending a flag or silo. The APC can use the EMP launcher to immobilize armour from rolling up while the squad uses rockets or stationary ground weapons. Also, the EMP can be used against infantry which scrambles their vision and makes the NetBat useless. The same can be said with the EMP hand grenade: It's an equalizer for infantry. Quite a few times I've disabled a tank or Walker with a EMP grenade which gave me enough time to hide and plan my next move. A full or partial squad with one member using the EMP grenade will be able to hold their own against any armour. Let's not forget the EMP land mine which is also highly effective. One of my favorite weapons in the game, the EMP has alot of creative uses.

Yes I agree. It's useful.
In hand grenade form you really have to spam the target to get a useful stoppage. Otherwise, one grenade seems to shut down a walker for literally 2 seconds or so. Then again, I was in a walker that was getting grenaded and found out that while you can start moving again in only 2 seconds or so, the turret won't spin for another second or 2.

one thing i've noticed about using the EMP grenade on walkers.
For some crazy reason, if you spam it enough, the pilot or gunner will get out to try and take you down, leaving the walker 1 body short. If there's only one person in the walker (which is usually the case if the guy's getting out to try to get you), you just earned yourself a free walker!

I saw this often in beta where the walker piloted solo would get empd repeatedly and the driver would often jump out in frustration and it was pretty easy to swipe the walker

The EMP on the APC is great verse aircraft as well.
A Gunship was bearing down in Snail in his tank, I got a lucky EMP round into the gunship and he fell out of the sky like a brick. BOOM! Last edited by Meddler; 10-20-2006 at 09:18 PM. |

Do the EMP's have a "splash" effect? Do they need to have a direct contact with armour? It seems on infantry you can throw or shoot one and it has a "splash" effect on vision.

I've really pissed people off by dropping a supply crate and EMP 'nade spamming walkers from behind cover. Freezes 'em and gets annoying for the pilot, ha. It's especially fun when the walker is right on top of you (like a wall) and can't see you so has no idea where it's coming from... I often end up dying eventually, but it's entertaining while it lasts, and if your squad is playing a head's up game, they'll figure out what you're doing and take the walker down before you get fragged..
