Use of Engineer mines in a pinch.
Just wanted to note a tactic that has been working great for me.
If you're pinned by a heavy vehicle like a walker or a tank and you're behind some cover right next to it, the engineer's guided mines work excellent as a sort of a AT grenade. Just chuck them over the wall, and given some 5s of arming time the little bastards will home in on any vehicle close by and do some goodness to it. It's worked for me a few times now, mostly against walkers who like to get up close and personal to a squad. |

Good stuff. Those mines are deadly. It's quite a sight seeing them take off after a vehicle!

They also return to their original location if they get too far from it while chasing something. EDIT: One thing I need to experiment on is if they track horizontal only, or if they can be dumped on roofs etc. |

Back in the beta 1 and 2 they would track friendlies. They were way underpowered then too. All 5 would hit a tank and the tank would still keep coming. I'm glad they fixed them for retail.

Re: Use of Engineer mines in a pinch.
I think these motion mines are over-used and over-rated. Anytime I plan on using a BattleWalker or Tank I use my recon character and just get out at a safe distance briefly to snipe the mines with the Zellar; Plus, if you come into some accidentally, as long as you stop immediately when your danger alert is triggered, you can back up in small increments slowly and then eventually escape them to a safe distance. Nevertheless, I see people all the time just zooming around like they don't exist and getting killed which seems to give these things their reputation for being such a lethal instrument of BF2142.

I had a guy try this last night. I shot him in the back and stole hes walker for his troubles. The morall of this story is to defend the area were you place the mines. |

Re: Use of Engineer mines in a pinch.
The II-29 Motion Mine can also be used against aerial targets. When strategically placed around a base, two or three of these mines will destroy any unsuspecting air transport or gunship hovering close to the ground. Though I do not know their exact range, these mines will usually start tracking incoming airships at about the same height as a flag and detonate well before their intended target can escape to safety.
I have found deploying a string of II-14 EMP Mines somewhere between the entrance to a base and its flag, and the Motion Mines behind barriers close to the flag, but out of view, to be a very successful tactic in stopping advancing vehicles. The EMP Mines will stop vehicles for enough time to allow an experienced engineer to get at least one shot at their most vulnerable spots. However, should the shot miss its target, most drivers will immediately put the vehicle in motion and trigger the hidden Motion Mines.

Re: Use of Engineer mines in a pinch.
While I love the motion mines, one of my pet peeves regarding them is that on a few occasions my motion mines have gone after a legitimate enemy vehicle and destroyed it, along with a lone, allied infantryman who was too close to the blast. This resulted in a teamkill on my part (as well as a punish on almost all occasions). The way I see it, collateral damage to nearby friendly units should probably exist to reflect realism, but an engineer shouldn't be penalized when using motion mines for something he ultimately has no control over.
Anyone else ever have this happen to them?
