Syndicated News comes to Tactical Gamer!

As you may have already noticed, we have installed some new software that allows us to tap into various RSS syndicated news feeds. We've picked up the ol' faithful from 3D Gamers and have also added the Top News Stories stream from Yahoo news.

These new forums will appear towards the bottom of the forum listing and each syndicated stream will have it's own private forum. Feel free to use these news topics as fresh meat for the Sandbox!

We will add some more feeds as we find them. If anyone has any specific suggestions that would be of interest to the Tactical Gamer community, forward them on to me.

Very nice.

I'm guessing these articles will expire and cycle themselves out over time? If that's the case, I suppose that linking to them (from other threads, perhaps) would be a bad idea?

Right now there is no expiration on the items. But I will probably end up putting some sort of pruning on there, but it will most likely be 6 months or so...

Oh wow.

If it's that long, those forums could be very useful for many applications, and I would think them very safe to link to.

While I like the occasional gaming headlines, as one of the members that reads the forums by viewing "new posts", I think that all of the news headlines is too much. Now instead of having a single page of threads to sift through, I'm going to have 4 or 5 that I have to pick "real" discussions out of...

Just my opinion. If everyone else likes it, that's cool.

I just thought of something. Is it possible to have RSS-Agent1 and RSS-Agent2 ? That way people could "ignore" anything posted by the agent that they don't want to view?

Yeah, putting RSS-Agent on "ignore" doesn't work when he starts a thread... In 24 hours, I have over 15 pages of new threads.... I'm gonna have to go back to reading threads forum by forum.

There may be a way for me to exempt certain forums from the "new threads" view.. I'm still working out some bugs with the RSS, so once I know that is stable, i'll move towards trying to make it not appear on the new threads listing.

The Arcade is pretty cool, but have you had any luck with getting the RSS Agent to be less annoying? I noticed that very few news posts are even being viewed anyway, so I wonder if this is even a desired feature? The volume and repetition is simply too much to interest me, I know... I'd be happy with just 3D Gamers and maybe Slashdot.

I commonly view the threads, but I notice that the view count does not increment. I'm not sure what that means. Maybe my viewings don't count. haha

No luck so far.. I've tried a couple things that haven't worked. I have some posts up on a couple of the vB forums looking for some new ideas though!
