Mic or soundcard problem

I can play game for half hour or so each time, then for some unknow reason my mic, in game(voip) and teamspeak will fail to work. Its not thr actual mic as i have tested this. A restart fixes the problem until the next half hour.

I have Fatlaity soundcard, Sound settings are ultra high.

Would any one have an idea as to why this would be?

Re: Mic or soundcard problem

I have exactly the same problem, and it is very frustrating. It doesn't sound like Lucky has the same problem though, since his Teamspeak continues to work- 2142 just resets his audio settings.

That doesn't happen to me, it just seems that 2142 blocks out the microphone so nothing can use it (not even 2142 itself) until the program is restarted.

Re: Mic or soundcard problem

Same problem here as well, though I haven't tested TS and other mic programs to see if its a global issue or just in 2142. I do however have a quick fix , but it unfortunately requires hopping out of the server. (but not the game.) Disconnect, and run the VOIP mic test from the audio options. Mic should pick up again. Freakin annoying though. I really hope this is patched soon.

Edit: I'm just gonna drop some relevant system specs, maybe we can figure out whats causing this. (I'm guessing its X-Fi)

X-Fi XtremeMusic
Dual Core 4400+
2 GB DDR

Re: Mic or soundcard problem

Monday night this somewhat happened to me. I have an X-Fi XtremeMusic. My icon, which shows that I have VOIP, went away, but the squad could still here me, thankfully.

Asus P5W Dh Dlx
2 GB Corsair 8500C5
ATI x1900XTX

Re: Mic or soundcard problem

Crap. I'm getting this problem. Everything looks like it works fine when I'm not connected to a server, but when I connect to a server the mic doesn't work and all my audio options are grayed out when I go to the audio setup screen.

I think I'm going to try a reinstall. Seems like this problem just started for no reason.

Re: Mic or soundcard problem

Audio setup greys out for everyone. BF does that while in a game. You can't change any audio settings except volume levels.

That explains the graying out. Guess I never looked there before in game.

Still, the MIC dies on me in game. I did a full install and the problem hasn't gone away. I also installed the latest X-Fi drivers and changed my hardware accell setting to basic in DXDiag. Nothing. When I'm not connected to a server the microphone test works fine, but when connected the mic is dead.

It seemed to work for a little while after the install, but it was before the round started and we were waiting. I have no idea what I may have done different to cause this problem to just start up.

EDIT: I also wanted to mention that I had no idea how frustrating and unrewarding this game is when you can't relay intel to your squad.

Re: Mic or soundcard problem

Anybody have onboard sound? Try enabling it and setting your Sound Recording device to the onboard sound. This will be the sound device used for the 2142 mic.

Re: Mic or soundcard problem

I managed to sit down for a while and play the game friday night. Unfortuantly the problem still exists and is some what frustrating!

I tried as luckyshot suggested and putting hardware tab to basic, didnt seem to notice any difference in game, so i restarted game and all was fine for the next hour as i played.

Will playagain this week and see if that has fixed my problem. If not..........

Ack. My problem was just a key binding issue. So, I'm good again.

Re: Mic or soundcard problem

I am having a problem with teamspeak and 2142. If I have teamspeak open then BF will not let me use the mic the icon comes out when I hit V to talk but its crossed out and noone can hear me. This only happens when I have TS open.

Re: Mic or soundcard problem

I had this problem using the front bay that came with my X-Fi Platinum card (also comes with the Fatality cards). The front bay is shown as Line2 while the back of the card is Line1 (or just microphone). By default 2142 and teamspeak use Line1. The problem with this is that even though you activly set your microphone as Line2 in the Creative setup, 2142 switches back to Line2 when you load into a server (or sometimes when the map changes).

So if you are using the front bay and notice it not working, you can alt+tab and go into the Creative setup and change it back to Line2 (assuming you can alt+tab out of the game and get back in). Now I just plug my mic into the back of the card and it works fine.

Re: Mic or soundcard problem

My tip doesn't even work for me in BF2142. The original tip was for BF2 and after I solved that, it worked fine for BF2. Exact same settings in 2142 as I currently set in bf2, however, my microphone kicks off after 10-15 minutes in 2142.
