A Hangman's Day

Saddam is guilty. The people of Iraq have been avenged.

Re: A Hangman's Day

could happen pretty fast too. I read the decision is automatically appealed to a panel who can take as much time as they please, but probably 3-4 weeks to review. Then the sentence must be carried out within 30 days.

Can't be soon enough, IMO. "You don't have to meet your maker, but you can't stay here."

On a related note, look at how defiant the guy has been in court.

That link shows some of the dialouge between the Judge and Saddam.

Yeah I bet the appeals court is going to want that hot potato off their respective plates asap. Being involved in this case is extremely hazardous to your health and your loved-ones' health. It's just gross. Hang that sucker.

Re: A Hangman's Day

What I dont get is that people here in Iraq, dont like the idea of Saddam being hanged (other than the Kurds). They must have liked his decades of tyranny and murder. They must have enjoyed watching Saddam's sons raping 8 yr old girls. These people cease to amaze me. I cant wait to get out of this hellhole.

Re: A Hangman's Day

Why couldn't they have waited three days before announcing the verdict?

To the Iraqi people, he's the lesser of two evils. The greater evil being America, and it's (unlawful depending on your political / moral stance) invasion. They don't want democracy forced on them. Don't think for a minute that Saddam would have been missed if the Iraqi people had got rid of him. I grant you that it's unlikely such a thing would ever have happened (we still have Blair, and you Bush, after all). To summerise, they ARE glad he's gone, they're not at all happy with the method of removal.

What I'd like to know, is this : Now Saddam has been dealt with, will the Americans be sending troops into Zimbabwea, or will the lack of oil there protect the ruthless, racist, murdering thug of a dictator?

Pardon my ignorance but why do you say that?

The appearance of impropriety in having the verdict/sentence two days before the American election is kind of embarassing. Regardless of whether or not anything actually is improper, it leaves it open for conspiracy theorists to tell stories. Postponing it three days would eliminate that option completely from the radicals...
