What does the MAP button do?

Apparently it it is supposed to provide "Power to the MAP system". What actually is this though. It doesn't really seem to do anything much?

Re: What does the MAP button do?

Further to this I can see that there is a moving map display. At least from what is on the Eagle 9 website. It actually looks pretty cool though it doesn't provide a whole lot of functionality since you can do this from the kneeboard but I have seen this in the real F-16 cockpit but cannot figure out from the F4AF manual how to do this. Any ideas?
