Stock tips and porn.. at the same time But other than that, it requires virtually no work on the part of the spammer, and there's very likely some idiots out there clicking the links and driving up ad revenue, and maybe even giving away their credit card numbers for whatever the spammer seems to be selling. |

And to think, we had a guy call in the other day complaining that two or three emails got through our spam filter and wanted to know why we didn't stop them...
7,000,000,000 messages... 1/10 of 1% responds... Still a good chunk of change.

I don't believe that anywhere near that number respond. The problem is that there are millions of people around the world who DO believe it and are willing to pay someone to send their spam to 100 million addresses. The spam industry is one where the only folks making any money are the spammers.
After all, I can send your garbage to 100 million email addresses for only $100. If only 0.1% of those people respond, you will sell your crap to 100,000 people!!!!!1 How can you affrod not too?

I recall that spam click-through rates are about 15 in 1,000,000. Even less than the suggested 0.1%. And it still remains profitable.
Spamhaus estimates that ~200 organizations worldwide (I've heard estimates as low as 10 people) are responsible for the vast majority of all spam.

IT had their shot at stopping the spam issue, they failed. Government regulation is the only way to go now and I'll bet anti-spam companies are the first to lobby against laws being made.

But there's already a law in place in the states (CAN-SPAM) - unless you're talking about national filters. The spam isn't originating from within the US though, so CAN-SPAM is effectively useless.
I predict plenty of business for the anti-spam companies, with or without gov't regs.

Keep in mind that all this spam regarding explosive stocks are pump & dump scams. There isn't a company behind it, per se, rather an individual looking to make a quick profit.
I see a LOT of this type of spam coming in and being caught by our filters. A LOT. I don't have the exact numbers, but I would wager that it is a vast majority of all incoming spam to the TG domain.
