Re: funny armed assualt videos

Those first three were pretty hilarious, great music choices too. The Harrier one was pretty awesome but I kept waiting for a punchline

That last one was absolutely stunning. Amazing flight footage.

Anyone know what the name of the song playing in the background is? I like it.

You rock! I have the DVD too. When I first got my surround system I used to use the first battle ("On my command, unleash hell!") to show people the effects.

In short, I knew it sounded familiar and thanks for playing "name that tune!"...

*EDIT*- and for anyone who cares, the song is "Now we are free" by Enya.

I have been watching my first footage of the game and the five years of chronic deep depression i was suffering with has disapeared!

Yeah!
Yeah!

This thing is like

GTA x BF2 x awsome to the 8th Power.

PS, that heavy jeep fliping up like that was super funny. Thanks for the laugh.

Re: funny armed assualt videos

Great vids Magnum! Thanks.

Question/Observation for you guys with ArmA...I noticed on the third video that the Harrier's airspeed was around "700" through most of the flight (the video was pixelated so it was hard to see precisely). I hope this speed indicator is in kph...'cause there isn't a snowball's chance in hell a Harrier will do 700 knots on the deck (nautical miles per hour...the real-world universal airspeed unit). You're approaching/passing/passed supersonic at that speed and altitude.

Don't really care...as long as everything's balanced. Since this is a realistic war sim, and its release has only been in Germany and the Czech Republic, I assume the speed indicator is universal for all vehicles and given in metric units.

The Harrier can do 875 knots.

Re: funny armed assualt videos

I'm not one to be contentious Cingular...but I do disagree.

The speed of sound on the deck is approximately 660 knots (air temp and pressure for a "standard day") or 1225 kph.

Wikipedia: Speed of Sound

Max speed of the Harrier: .89 Mach (675 mph, 1,085 km/h) at sea level

Widipedia: AV-8

Other Source: Harrier GR3 (RAF)

From the above source, a cruising speed of 480 knots is also extremely optimistic. Typical cruising speeds will be around 300-350 knots...attack speeds between 480-540 knots. Cruise speeds are normally based on weapon loadout, fuel weight, etc. 300-350 knots at cruise gives most planes the best speed/fuel/range efficiency. On the tactical employment side: Many weapons (other than A/A missiles) cannot be employed above 600 knots due to aerodynamic and/or seeker performance issues.

It honestly doesn't matter that much...I'm really not one of those DO OR DIE simulator fanatics. Again, I suspect that the speed is given in kilometers per hour so all of this is N/A.

someone got schooled... lol... not sure who, because I have no interest in following those links...

But a great way to argue/debate your position.

Hmmm, well, I went off of the Federation of American Scientists stats (usually a FANTASTIC source of information on military topics): http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/av-8.htm

This site lists it as capable of going Mach 1.25: http://www.aerospaceweb.org/aircraft/attack/harrier/

Boeing lists its top speed at Mach 1, though: http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/...b/av8bspec.htm

But contractors often don't publish the true capabilities of their products in unclassified documents.

So, I dunno, I just replied based on the first site that I found in Google...

And you're definitely right that no Harrier is going to cruise over Mach 1.
