Map Rotation
I'm new to the forum, but have been playing POE for awhile and think it's great! It does seem like your server is the only one that has enough players on it at night, and I have looked for a couple of days but can not find any info. on what order the POE maps are played on what days. I could have easily overlooked it, but would be intrested to know the map order, as some of them I really like and some not as much. Also, I have noticed that some of them seem to be left off of the rotation (at least when I play after 10:00 pm.), and these maps are First Snow, Guardian, Zhytomyr, and Rolling Thunder, and the new maps No Man's Land and Hell Awaits. There probably is some reasoning to this that I am not aware of, but I really like the variety of having all of the maps rotate through, and was just curious if this has been addressed. It's awesome to have new maps developed and added for us...so just want to tell all the developers that your work is greatly appreciated!

Re: Map Rotation
This is the current map rotation.
http://www.tacticalgamer.com/showpos...4&postcount=24 Notes: - Rolling Thunder is in the rotation - Guardian has always been avoided here at TG since the map has a CTD bug for pcs running low terrain. The decision is made easy when pretty much no one enjoys the map anyway. - First Snow and Zhytomyr got dropped recently due to lack of appeal toward the map from the TG community. Zhytomyr could maybe make a reappearance down the line but I can't imagine First Snow ever coming back. - No Man's Land and Hell Awaits look interesting and if they make it into the official POE mappack based around the map making contest then we may take a look. An internal decision will have to be made when that time comes.

Re: Map Rotation
Yeah, I remember First Snow. Blehhhh.
It's not like the First Snow I remember as a child. Where are the snow angels? Anyway, I really hope that we get new maps soon, specifically new infantry maps. I think new maps would pump up renewed interest in POE2. Any chance of an all infantry map night?

Re: Map Rotation
I don't miss First Snow. I like the new rotation a lot.
I'm also looking forward to the new maps. BTW: Nice bombing last night Mantis. It lead to my worst round in a long time. I think I was 3-21 because of you. No hard feelings though. lol |

*laugh* I think that's how Mantis lets us know how much he cares. More killings equates to more love from the big M. |

Re: Map Rotation
Thanks for replying so quickly - I enjoy talking about the maps. I did notice that the rotation has some maps (Cap. Mtns, Orel, Fallen) that are played twice per rotation. How often does this get evaluated and what's the best way for us to throw in our 2 cents worth? I love playing Dinster River Valley and Rolling Thunder, and would like to play those more often, but I realize that everyone has a different opinion.

Re: Map Rotation
here's my 2 cents
Fallen SUCKS fallen is a pray and spray fest with minimal tactics which it seems allot of people like and I have no idea why it is a complete pile Spies like us or even Orel (which is also pretty craptastical do to how one dimensional it is) is allot better in pretty much every way. I pretty much want to quit the server every time I'm forced to turn my brain off for fallen and its low intelligence level of gameplay. why do people hate first snow I thought that map was pretty good and allot of fun lots of different tactics to use I don't get what there is to hate about that map. p.s. why does it seem like we are playing the same maps over and over some of the maps on rotation I have not played once in 4 days but I've played fallen maybe 10 times Last edited by [TEC]Doct0r-Pwnage; 12-14-2006 at 06:27 PM. |

Re: Map Rotation
I actually prefer Orel, Fallen, and Spies over many of the other maps. One of the turnoffs for me in vanilla was the overwhelming ownage of air power and armor. It's refreshing to play maps that are solely infantry (atleast for the most part) and give players who generally "groundpound" a way to play the game uninterrupted by the absurd abuse air power is given on everyother map. I'm not saying that air power is lame, because I like the fact that I can request to my CO for air support when I need it, but being able to engage enemies w/o the worry of attack helos and frogfoots suits my style of play far better. I think this holds true for many of the players we see here at TG.
As for playing Fallen specifically, when you play you have to consider what factors that go into determining the enjoyable experience (or lack of ) ie, do we have a CO, are my teams working as a cohesive unit, are squads following orders etc. etc. In most cases, teams who lose these kinds of infantry only rounds lose because of the lack of aforementioned essentials. If there's no commander, step up and delegate. If a unit is not responding to orders report them. I've seen you play Doc (and have fallen between your sights many times) and know how frustrating it can be to play on a side w/no coordination and teamplay. However, part of being in the TG community is to promote these very things and if everyone (including myself) can contribute even somewhat, the rounds at PoE2 can become even more enjoyable. |

Re: Map Rotation
I agree that the air power on maps like Sambir & Highway to Hell takes away some of the fun for me. I still get into a few great infantry battles in Highway however. For me, I just like the variety of all the maps. They are so diverse with the forrest in Fallen, Mountains in Capathrian & Sambir, mountains w/snow in Dinster, nightime snow map in Spies, rolling plains in Rolling Thunder, and the nightime maps in Zhytomyr & Rivne, etc. I think the variety of playing different kinds of maps that have such different looks makes it more fun for me. I would perfer more armor maps myself, but at least maybe a combo where infantry maps are not played too close to each other. I can only play 2-3 maps most nights, and maybe having at least 2 maps inbetween Fallen & Orel would be cool, since they seem to be rather small maps that can turn into bloodbaths. I am enjoying Fallen more and more as I play it... but I can't say the same thing about Orel. I must say that I enjoy POE so much more than BF! I can't tell you how many times that I was shot in the head by a guy I had already shot 6 times who was diving to the ground who was still able to accurately shoot me between the eyes!!! I don't see that in POE...BF2 just seemed so unrealistic at times...

Re: Map Rotation
Orel has the best infantry battles and movement. Fallen and Spies are the same except one has lots of cover and one is barren. They both play the same style. Less major battles more stealth operations than formal moves, like on Orel.

Guardian CTD bug: We fixed this AAAAAAGES ago, was included in the 1.15 patch, the crash was caused by the lack of water configuration on the low detail setting. People can now run this map on any setting without issue. First snow and Zhytomyr: ehhhhhh?? those are 2 of the best maps! oh well, your server I guess. ![]() No mans land & Hell awaits: these maps will not be in the map pack because Jaws has withdrawn his submission in the contest for unknown reasons. Keep em in rotation but make it well known that players need to dl them separately.
