My First TG Commander role!

So, last night on the conquest server, I had the luxury of being the commander 2 rounds. My squads responded to me. I advised them of intel (something I think alot of commander dont do). We won the first one, and the second one was close (didnt get in commander role until we were already down 50 points).

Either way, thanks to the TG AHH squad, the ASN squad and everyone else with unnamed squads. Was great fun, and I hope all my intel yacking over the comms helped more then it bothered you guys.

Thanks,
Rev

Re: My First TG Commander role!

That was fun last night. You did good comanding. One thing with comms is that is hard to tell if is the actual comander speaking, sometimes on the heat of the action you dont look at the name tag of who is talking, and other times the name tag wont show up at all.

I don't know if you were doing this or not since I was not a squad leader,( I was following john on his crazy antics in TG AHH squad) but as a sl is easier to tell when the comander just says this is the comander : talk here.

Noted, thanks. I usually give the field orders and advise over VOIP at same time. Helps a bit to know it was a commander. But I will use your suggestion as it will make sure their is not mistake.

Thanks.

Re: My First TG Commander role!

That is a great suggestion Yo!! I remember a round that I was SL and was such a crazy round that I couldnt tell if it was commander speaking or was someone in the group speaking.. and yes it happens to me all the time that someone will speak and their name wont show up on the screen.

++REP FOR JOO!!

Re: My First TG Commander role!

Better than the repetitive "This is the Commander" is to do what I do and open every comm with a SL with "Squad X:" or "SL Name:". It's hard for them not to know who you're talking to this way.

Also, Commanders should make sure they use the ability to talk to one squad at a time whenever possible to avoid flooding the comm channel. Only information that pertains to all squads should be conveyed on the global comm channel.

Hey Bomm, I have been trying to figure out all of the comms interface for the Commander (only recently started to try to command). Any chance you could write up a commander FAQ/Info sheet? I know you know this stuff inside and out.

Just so we all know. (me included) How do we talk to just one squad. How do we talk to all squads at same time?

Re: My First TG Commander role!

To broadcast to all squads, the commander uses the same button SquadLeaders use to talk to the commander ("V" for me).

To broadcast to one squad (or multiple highlighted/selected squads), use the standard squad-VOIP button ("B" for me).

YES!!! Preach it brother!!! Please squads say your number, and even if your in a squad, say who is talking first. I can not always catch the litttle mic icon in the corner to see who it is, and I just do not know everyone's voice yet and you all have accents...except for Bommando....

Re: My First TG Commander role!

Yeah Boms suggestion is alot more practical.

I have to jump in a pub server and try a couple of comander rounds to try out the interface.

Preston's Insight Into COing should still apply from BF2. I may write a guide at some stage, but the interface itself is pretty elementary. It's more the strategies that take time to develop.

... and people with fat fingers shouldn't use the middle mouse button for TeamSpeak
