Unlock Strategy

This strategy is for those folks just starting out and is probably pretty obvious for those of you who have been playing for a while. Decide which unlocks are "must haves for you." Instead of unlocking that item, consider unlocking to the item just below it (choosing the desired item as a field upgrade instead). For instance I really wanted the motion mines for engineer, but don't currently have a desire for the SAAW AA. I unlocked the Dystek repair and moved on. Downside to this strategy is it really pisses you off if you are playing on a non-TG server and not getting field upgrades. This also allows you to test out the items to decide which ones to unlock first once you get down to your "unnecessary" unlocks.

Another unlock misconception is that player ability upgrades are not available for field upgrade after the grenades. The box is grayed out, but you can still select one upgrade past what ever level you are at.

This is what I do. After one round I normally have all my field upgrades done or have 1 or 2 left. I only unlocked the HMG because I play support the most and fell in love what the gun. Other then that I have most of my field upgrades set to weapons and i get them quick. Why waste the unlock on it?

Re: Unlock Strategy

IMO if you really want your unlocks... go assult. Assult easily gets the most points, especialy if you are just starting out. With healing and revive points you will rank up much faster then you can go for whichever class you want.

Re: Unlock Strategy

once you hit a certain rank, ranking up is no more of a necessity, its more of a convienence as youre just unlocking the weapons then.

Re: Unlock Strategy

I'm past the halfway mark for unlocks and once I hit 20/40 I had to badge hunt to get unlocks. The good part is I concentrated on one branch of each class and played that class as I ranked up. It helped obtain the class badges without feeling like I was grinding for points.

Re: Unlock Strategy

Hey, question on the Support unlocks - I play support the most, but I got the HMG as a field upgrade a couple weeks ago, and I didn't care for it. Slow rate of fire=me getting killed more. Any tips on how or why you love it so much? Is it more accurate, like the PKM in BF2? (which I love to snipe with)
Always interested in learning more about my fave kits....

Re: Unlock Strategy

I'm not going to say that the Ganz is more or less accurate, but I believe that it has a smaller beaten zone than the other Med-Hvy MGs. That means that the rounds fired (full auto, measured bursts) tend to group tighter together, therefore, a have a much greater effect on a smaller area, versus a less effect on a larger area.

I personally love the Ganz. It's much less an "area affect" weapons than the others, but not as acurate as an assault rifle. So, in theory, if guys are tightly grouped together, I have a much easier time taking out two, maybe three at a time. I just haven't found this possible with the two base MG's, as they are true "area affect" weapons (covers a larger area, but only really has the affect to down one, possibly two guys if you're lucky).

If at first you don't succeed, you need more firepower.

There is nothing wrong with feeling something when you shoot your enemies... as long as that something is recoil.

Re: Unlock Strategy

They key to me with the HMG is to use small bursts. Dont just hold down the button. 4-7 rounds per burst. I never overheat, and accuracy is best this way.

p.s. The accuracy gets better the longer you fire. Even with controlled burst. Most people know this, its just an fyi.

Re: Unlock Strategy

I'm slowly working to the point where I'll have them ALL ). I could take the Ganz next but I think I'm going Dystek(total waste). THat should allow me the clark as a Field.

Re: Unlock Strategy

Yeah, I'm kind of leaning that way, I'd like to try out the Clark, I really like the Jackhammer in BF2 for close-in melee work...

Re: Unlock Strategy

Well, I just got the game the other day, and I already got up to the lambert carbine for recon, and the defibalutar for assualt and a good amount of field upgrades.

I would like to know though which would be better to get, the Voss-Lar or the Baur for assualt. It is hard for me to find a difference between them I've been picking up guys i killed kits to try them out, and the baur seems to run out of ammo quicker but both seem to take down the target just as well.

Re: Unlock Strategy

Well, which one should I get first/ which do you recommend, I see most people with the Voss though. Also are there any items other than the defib that is nesscary for assualt to unlock?

Re: Unlock Strategy

As an assault, you will almost always be using a defib and rockets as your equipment. The airburst rifle rockets are incredibly useful. I prefer the Voss, as it has a high cap mag and relatively low recoil on full auto, but others swear by the Baur, as it has high damage, especially at close range, and reloads quickly. The Voss vs. Baur debate has been goin on for a while, so I'll say no more.

As for the Ganz, it's meant for the more sedentary support. Takes a while for the sights to settle after moving, but does tons of damage per bullet and recovers from overheating very quickly. I can't say much about its accuracy, relative to the other support LMGs, though.

Re: Unlock Strategy

Well, I guess then I should go for the rockets unlock then? I mean all the medic pack upgrade does is allow you to heal in vehicles and such? and then smoke grenades, which I think I would have frags if I carried any grenades, and I have recon stealth if I need to get past any tight spots...
