FRAPS and recording your own VOIP

I've read this thread and tried it out.
http://www.tacticalgamer.com/battlef...ound-input.htm

I can get the audio feedback no problem. I enter BF2142 and I can still hear my own voice, but as soon as I enter a game, or go into the audio properties it goes away. When I exit BF2142 the feedback works properly again.

I haven't tried this with old BF2 so I'm not certain if this is a new problem or not.

I wonder if the guy at Squadplay.com uses FRAPS or not.

Re: FRAPS and recording your own VOIP

Just tried it in BF2 with the same problem. As soon as I enter the Audio options panel or start the game, the mute is overridden. I have an X-Fi.

Re: FRAPS and recording your own VOIP

Bf screws your your audio settings when it loads up, you have to change it back to what you want when you're in the game.

Re: FRAPS and recording your own VOIP

Thanks. Actually I figured this out, but I can't tab out when I'm connected to a server without crashing. Actually I haven't tried while connected to a server and in the menu. Anyway, I found that if I go to the audio tab it will reset my mute settings. ALT-Tab out reset the Mute setting and MIC boost and I can then connect to a server and start gaming properly.

Thanks.

Re: FRAPS and recording your own VOIP

I've been doing some further work with fraps, there are actually 2 methods of recording all sounds with fraps

Both methods rely on feeding back your own voice so it can be recorded along with game sounds and squad mates VOIP

Method 1 : uses one computer and info in this thread and also this thread

Method 2: Uses two computers. Computer A plays the game, records with fraps & is is logged into a private teamspeak channel. Computer B is logged into the same teamspeak channel and has a microphone. As you talk to your squad your voice is being picked up on microphones on both computers. Computer B transmits your voice and you hear it on teamspeak on computer A and it is recorded on fraps.

ORCA uses FRAPS

A) Fraps can record standard audio for me with no problem, but in order to get my voice to come through I had to unmute the microphone in windows' audio control panel. It's a bit annoying to hear yourself through the speakers/headphones, but it's the only way I could figure out how to record my voice as well as the squad's.

Yes it does take some tuning on several volume levels.
Can you post a video here so we can see what kind of results you are getting.

Re: FRAPS and recording your own VOIP

Any suggestions for rendering? I'm trying a bunch of different formats and specs, trying to see what the most visible with least size is.

Re: FRAPS and recording your own VOIP

Windows Media Format. I still have to tweak down the effects to get my voice a little bit higher.

Okay, it's only 3.3megs, but it's on my home server so right click and save, please. I'll figure out how to upload to Youtube or wherever some other time.

http://www.higginstribe.com/tg/test_fraps.wmv

I have no trouble running FRAPs on my system and I don't detect any frame rate slowdown. Even at half size, a single round takes up a little over 10 gigs of space.

Re: FRAPS and recording your own VOIP

Suggested tweaks
> Turn general sound volume up in windows by 15%
> Turn game sounds down by 25% of what it is now (so voices are louder in comparison)
> Turn receive volume in audio menu down by 15% (so your voice and squad mates voices are equal volume)

I suggest the all the voices need to be equal volume and clearly louder than the game sounds.
example movie (game sounds still about 15% too loud

I've been getting a weird problem with fraps in 2142 where the recorded sound is 1 second out of sink with the visuals !

I use Windows media maker for editing. This comes standard with Windows XP. Its really good and when you 'save to disk' there are numereous compression options, have a go and you wil see. (Edit another tip is to increase brightness of the movie)

Overall its great thats its almost there, all you need is a little more tuning then a squad that plays well together with lots of chatter and you have all the raw material you need.

I was thinking of youtube too. I suggest a series of films called "BF2142 VOIP Teamwork 1" and 2 and so on. Then you or I can just add to the collection with the next number.

This is one of the little projects I am working on, but would'nt it be great to put some real team work vids out there on youtube.

If I solve my sound prob with fraps we could even play in the same squad together and have 2 movies from two different points of view of the same action. Rock was also talking about doing something with fraps again.

Re: FRAPS and recording your own VOIP

Thanks again for the tips. I'll still be playing with the audio to get it all clearer.

I used Ulead VideoStudio 10 to render the video and it has so many options that it's just overwhelming. I have no problem with lack of encoding options.

Yes i was, hopefully over the xmas break i ill have a lot more time on my hands to play around with fraps and get it working again.

Then you could have 3 differnt angles on BF2142!

My movie example 3.5Mb (thanks to Ironclaw for helping me out)

2 problems with this
1) my voice comms is seriously reduced in quality
2) sound is out of sinc with visual action !

It looks like I may have to abandon this little project if i cant get over these problems

Silver, i remember when you and i were playing around with fraps with BF2. I cant recall you or me ever having these problems that you have now.

Also, recordings look awful dark, again i cant remember this happening on BF2.
