Hold Spawn issues
I have found myself ( and I know johnflenaly has had this problem also) coordinating an attack in the start of a round and repeating "Hold your spawn" 4-5 times to spawn and be surrounded by green dots.
This happend to me 3 times yesterday while leading 9th squads full of pubbies. Once the battle started I felt like I was babysitting for the first round. Second time around everyone still spawned when I said hold spawn, but they were more team oriendted by this time and we held off junkyard in tannis harbor against the bommando onslaught.

Re: Hold Spawn issues
They flatout ignore you. It really pisses me off.
I've actually said, "If you spawn I'm kicking you out of my squad." Sounds stupid but following orders is part of how we play, if you refuse to follow a simple order like that you are not playing in my squad.

![]() Some of the most fun rounds I have played actually. I started a squad with a bunch of Christmas trial noobs and just didn't have the patience to go on, so jep and I wreaked havoc buzzing around keeping squads guessing that they were under attack from a larger force. Yep, same here. After I call out kits at round start and say 'hold spawn' and 'do not spawn' three or four times, anyone who spawns is immediately kicked. It's a simple instruction, so you are either ignoring my direct order or you are clearly too stupid to play this game. |

Heheh yeah I remember blowing up jep once or twice with rockets. The thing is behind you there was another squad that came and dropped a beacon on our roof.

Re: Hold Spawn issues
I think it helps if you tell them to "deselect the spawn point"... a lot of people don't know how to "hold spawn".

On Berlin I think, your squad was dangerous enough that my commander ordered me to hunt you people down personally as a sniper! That time my finger was just a bit faster than Jep, he already loose a rocket on me and I got him with a rocket. Also I saw you laying motion mines around so I destroyed them in hope of luring you out hahah. |

Re: Hold Spawn issues
Food for thought here, I'm going to change my ways. I will say to my squad to not spawn at the beginning, tell them how to deselect a spawn and tell them that we will start as we mean to go on and if they disobey my 1st order then they are out of the squad. A fast way to instill discipline. Thanks for these ideas guys.

Re: Hold Spawn issues
I really couldnt take more than a few rounds of the insanity that went on yesterday. I gave up and went and played some plain vanilla BF2 and back to some WoW..
I will say in some folks defense.. that I have had some troubles (well after the beginning spawn not initial spawn though) during the round autospawning when I know for a fact I deselected the spawn and still ended up spawning at base or on SL.

Re: Hold Spawn issues
I was on BHacks squad once in Gibralter and everyone spawned except me. We managed to get the ruins flag alone and he kicked everyone else.
Seriously though, if they are not following that simple first order, it's unlikely that they would stay with the squad anyway, so tell them why they are gone, and get rid of them or warn them before hand and see if they follow. I don't know how you guys do it, the rounds are just too short for me to manage the individual squad members. I may see someone in my squad who is somewhere else most of the game, but I just don't have the time to find out who it is, then kick them. I guess it's just knowing the commands and being able to do it quickly with practice. Maybe it's my display settings as well, but I find it quite difficult to read the tags above peoples heads unless their name is pretty unique.

Re: Hold Spawn issues
noticed this last night - the spawn thing is actually really buggy:
A) When you click the out-of-bounds area, it doesn't deselect the spawn point B) Sometimes, even after deselecting the spawnpoint, I spawned anyway!!

Best way to stop yourself from spawning is keeping your map open. While the map is open the 90% of the time will not spawn you because is in chooze spawn mode

So "Hold your spawn by deselecting the spawn point on your map. Deselect it by clicking somewhere on the map, within the boundaries, but away from other spawn points. Now keep your map screen open and wait until I tell you to select another point to spawn on." Realistically, what are the odds of a newbie getting this right on the first go? |
