Vehicle guns

This may seem old hat to the BF2 vets here, so please skip this. Everyone else new to the 2142 series, this may warrant a read.

Your character's or vehicle's velocity is added to the initial velocity of the projectiles you fire. Anyone who has piloted a tank knows this: e.g., shells fired from a moving tank must be aimed to the left or right of the target to compensate for the tank's movement. You can also see this with rifle rockets fired while moving.

The same is true for just about any other vehicle's munitions. Even for gunships, though it looks like the cannon is firing right where you aim, those rounds are still affected by the velocity of the gunship (at least, that's my experience; it could just be my ping). So gunners, please try to take into account the vehicle's movement when aiming.

Re: Vehicle guns

Well, only the PAC gunship is affected by inertia according to my experience. The slower explosive shells take time to travel while the Talon's bullets are hitscan.

Re: Vehicle guns

Has anyone else noticed the mounted guns on the "jeeps" in 2142 don't do as much damage as the .50 cals in BF2? It sure seems like it takes a lot of hits to kill someone.

They are very weak, but have a good rate of fire. The FAV (fast attack vehicle) is just weak, and is good for fast travel, and unsuspecting infantry.

They're also horrifically accurate. I can't count the number of times someone has killed me because my big toe stuck out from cover. They act more like a cross between the sniper rifle and LMG really. You get accurate shots with the LMG rate...it just does the damage of a pistol.

Light, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I had to kill because they ticked me off.

Re: Vehicle guns

One of my favorite tactics is to use the FAV as a mobile machinegun nest. It offers decent cover (parked sideways) with an MG with a sweet ROF (albeit, like you said, with crappy impact damage).

If at first you don't succeed, you need more firepower.

There is nothing wrong with feeling something when you shoot your enemies... as long as that something is recoil.

This is the best description of the FAV gun I have seen.
