How the heck can I make my mic louder for VOIP?

I go into the sound controls, and the mic volume is all the way up. It's barely audible unless I talk pretty loud, and then it's just barely sufficient.

So, I turn it down just for the heck of it, and it sounds the exact same (I checked it all w/ Audacity).

In BF2142, I put the mic threshold on 0.

Is there something I'm missing here? You just can't hardly hear it .

If you're running windows XP, go to Start, Control Panel, Sound Speech and Audio Devices, Speech, and Configure Microphone. From there you should be able to wade through the rest untill you get it to where you want. To check, go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, Sound Recorder and try recording your voice a couple time and listen to the play back.
That should do it.

Go into the BF2142 audio options and select 'Boost Mic'.

After you've checked mic boost is on in bf2142 then alt-tab (while not connected to server) and check in windows / your sound card that mic boost is on there too. This really sounds like a mic boost problem to me.

Are you using a headset or a table top mic? The headset is, as one might expect, going to be louder as it is right next to your mouth.

Also, have you tried another mic? If both mics are quite then you know it is something with your computer. If not, then you know it is your mic.

Just be careful with mic boost, because when I turn it on, I get that awful, annoying, ear-destroying echo noise and the shrilling pitch that follows.

Re: How the heck can I make my mic louder for VOIP?

I have mic problems as well, but none of the above seem to help me out. All my mic settings are set to MAX, but nothing seems to help.

make sure you adjust the mic's audio level in the recording tab of your volume controls, not playback...

^^ Exactly what I was going to say. You guys are probably adjusting your playback, not recording settings.

Start->Accessories->Entertainment->Volume Control

Then click on Options then Properties and select "Recording" not Playback.

Then I like to have all the options open so I also have the "advanced controls" on with everything checked so I can keep tabs on everything.

That should do it.

Re: How the heck can I make my mic louder for VOIP?

Yer I am having the exact same problem. I have adjusted all the in game options to for the max possible volume and I am still low, I click mic boost but when i return to the audio menu mic boost is unselected. Also I've gone to volume and fixed the recording settings to the highest. Everywhere other then bf2142 my mic is fine but its to low for others to hear my in bf2142.

^--- Same, maxed in 2142 and recording (not playback), I'm fine on vent, depending on the server even have outbound turned down.

Re: How the heck can I make my mic louder for VOIP?

I have just gone through all of this with dell tech support who were very kind in helping me. They maxed out every microphone setting, they could not deal with battlefield 2142 but now I definitely know its a problem with 2142. Every setting in windows and my integrated sound card are maxed out, it still works perfectly fine on teamspeak, but in 2142 #1 mic boost turns off every time I leave the audio screen (I do have mic boost for my sound card) and #2 I still have it on 0% for the threshold and I'm still to low for others to understand me.

Re: How the heck can I make my mic louder for VOIP?

Ok I fixed my problem by going to the ea folder and clicking battlefield 2142 voice setup then i just dragged the bar up to the top even though the bar did not respond to my headset now everything works fine.

Un-mute your mic.

Chances are if your talking into a mic and that bar isn't moving it's because your muted. I think it even tells you "Make sure your mic isn't muted"
