Carpathian Mountains 1/1 Ukraine

I had a lot of good squad experiences tonight from York SL'ing our solid defense at the bridge on Rolling Thunder, to never losing the North Cabin on Fallen, to very intense fighting at the backyard on Orel. However, our best squad play happened on Carpathian Mountain as we held the North Cabin for the round.

Everybody played their roles and we were able to take out all comers to the flag. It did help that they assaulted pitter patter so that we could bring multiple weapons to bear. Props to Sgt York who performed miracles with the med kit, Icky who went above and beyond keeping everyone supplied, JeonJiHyeon for keeping the chokepoints mined even when other squads drove over them, DBM(DeathByMonkeys)Terrapin rounding out the deadly AT combo and for FreekyE for who operated a number of kits including Medic and Spec Ops.

The best fight had to have been when we sent a fireteam of three guys to assist squad 3 at Lumbermill giving the enemy a gap to sneak onto the hill overlooking our flag. Inspite of them taking the superior position, we were able to wipe the enemies out shorthanded 3-5 as they never saw us coming.

Great Communication tonight and excellent gameplay throughout the squads I was in tonight!

It was a great night. I was glad I jumped in for some games! I hope to see more TG'ers in PoE getting tuned up for the scrim over the next little while.

I'm bummed I missed it, Lucky. I had to leave for New Year's dinner with my in-laws right in the middle of the best round I've had in a while - a TG-5th squad on Orel. It doesn't get much better...

That's a bummer man! We were running solid squads throughout the night and communicating our movements through Teamspeak. Who needs a CO when you have 2-3 5th led squads on your side? Still great games man and sorry I didn't make it on earlier.

Re: Carpathian Mountains 1/1 Ukraine

That was a fun round, but perhaps the detail left out was the TG ratio between teams. The UKR had two squads with majority TG members, which was probably around 8 players, while the German team had no TG players (well one for the while I was there), and it was pretty obvious. By the time we were capable of capturing two flags the round was pretty much over. I think in situations like these it would be nice if one of the squads would switch teams just to even things out.

I agree with switching to balance if required, but I don't agree with the "TG" analysis of team strength. Very frequently, a team littered with TG players will lose badly. It just isn't a good indicator of the strength of a team. TG teams tend to be better in whack-a-mole situations because we defend, but otherwise the number of TG players is a weak indicator.

That said, I would urge TG players to continue to split across teams when possible and invite new players into their squads. I have seen lots of this happening, and the results are fantastic.

I would generally agree with this, I'm not saying that all non-tg-players can't use teamwork, or work as a squad, but in this particular instance one side had apparently quite good communication and teamwork. Of course I didn't play on the UKR (although I think I was teamswitched for a very short time at the end of the round) but from what I observed they had some sort of effective strategy, and this is only confirmed by this AAR. This is as opposed to the German side where there was minimal communication and out of the squads I joined only one had some sort of 'plan'. It would be nice if teams could be balanced for teamwork and communication but I don't know of a good way to do this, and it certainly does not happen naturally, as we can see from this instance. So the next best thing in my mind is to even out the TG players. As a side note I did try to bring this to the attention of others via a global message, but even if one does pay attention to the chat it often goes by pretty quickly, making it difficult to read.

I know the round before had plenty of TG people on their side, but Spies Like Us lately has been brutal on the germans and I don't remember seeing Rockford, Sawviper, Robocop making it into the next round (Carpathian). I try to watch the global chat, but yea, your right, it slips right past especially if your squad is active at the time it happens. We did have an admin in our squad who was in TS. Had we heard that message that their were others on the opposite side who felt teams were unfair, then we would have switched.

Re: Carpathian Mountains 1/1 Ukraine

The admin in your squad was ALONE in the PoE channel for 90% of the evening, so it wasn't likely that anything was going to happen there.
