Talking Canned Air warning

I didn't even know that this stuff was flammable! My flat screen has been overheating so I decided to blow out the area around the fan. Well when I pulled the trigger a fire ball shot out of the back and scorched the wall as well as burning all the hair off of my forearm and hand.

Just a warning guys, it seems that air will catch on fire! *laugh*

Re: Canned Air warning

I believe they use propane as a propellant. No joke.

Re: Canned Air warning

Hm, I'll have to read my canned air and what the propellant is when I get home.

Although Hank Hill would be proud...

Re: Canned Air warning

I don't see an ingredients list, but it does say keep away from ignition sources, etc. Including live electrical devices. Kind of cool how this mundane cleaning product can cause burns with flame or extreme cold and even says so on the label.

Re: Canned Air warning

In a world of labels and side effects I am not surprised.

See if it says in the label

Sideeffect: May cause anal leakage if ingested....

Re: Canned Air warning

Hmm I may be wrong about the propane bit. I did some searches and found that at least one manufacturer uses HFC 134a. It's a hydrofluorocarbon that's related to refrigerants. I was looking at the MSDS for the Belkin version and it claims a flammability of 0 in the DOT info but on the last page under "Additional precautionary info" it says "Flammable keep away from flame". The DOT ERG 2004 Edition references guide #1078 for this product, which gives us guide # 126. Under fire and explosion it states "Some may burn, but none ignite readily".

reference material:
MSDS:
http://www.belkin.com/support/msds/F8E408.pdf

DOT ERG guide # 126:

Re: Canned Air warning

Moral of the story....dont spray your monitor with Compress air, as it has static built up and could pop at anytime.

You can get nonflammable cans of compressed air.

Re: Canned Air warning

We used to play around with these all the time as kids, spraying bursts of fire at each other in the ditches by my house. Surprisingly no one ever lost their eyebrows or anything
