Good times on Tunis

Our squad, led by WilliamHSelby, decided to pay a visit to Power Station. The next few minutes were filled with screaming, bullets, and death. Our average life expectancy upon podding in was a few seconds, as at least two squads opened up on us, not to mention an orbital as a final kick in the nuts. Unsurprisingly, we did not succeed in taking the flag, but it was a fun precursor to the rest of the round. If only I were recording this, we could all share in some rare footage of Bommando laughing lol

Speaking of footage, is there a reason why our server doesn't have BattleRecorder enabled? I honestly don't know any of the specifics behind it, so this is a complete noob question.

That Orbital Strike brought a tear to my eye. We all know I am usually the first (and only) person to be killed by every OS. This time, not only did I survive, but about 3-4 members of my squad died instead of me and I proceeded to revive all of them. Then some Voss-wielding noob picked me off. Not before demonstrating to Sajier some of the PK Rocket lessons from TGU.

Shame I had to leave soon after due to an important phone call. Probably a good thing, since my good mood soon turned when our opponents were throwing APMs around like grenades. The way some people Spam these things with impunity among friendly troops poses a good argument for turning FF on. Made the subsequent Eastern Docks assault a little tiresome.

Playing with Arf and Fehmart is always fun though.

This has been spoken of in the admin forums and we'll test it to see if we can enable it without lagging the server.

Hope you all had fun yesterday, We Had A Great Squad Together. Bommando came in at a bad time though.

No comment on the round, but I had to comment on this, as the APM spamming is annoying the heck out of me as well. These are no longer used to cover against back stabbers and as a warning system, now they are thrown wherever the possibility of a free kill exists.

I've commented on this problem before. People just throw these things out randomly, if it is an area where there is any chance an enemy will be at some point you are guaranteed a kill.

I thought about why it seems to be more of a problem in 2142 than BF2 and I think it's a combination of more infantry choke-point style maps and the range and sensitivity of the 2142 version seems much greater than the BF2 version. The explosion radius also seems larger.

*shrug* can defuse them and crawl by them. Wish I could defuse in BF2. Personally APM dont bother me as much as some of the other things.

On topic: I was in Williams squad on Tunis, fun times even though Bommando got a Hat Trick kill on me and my squad. (was this a different run on Tunis.... they are all running together)

Re: Good times on Tunis

In general, APMs don't bother me, but the way a few people use them does. They are not breaking the rules, so I can't blame them, but the specific occurrences I speak of are when people know they are spawning into a concentrated firefight and rather than seek cover, they instantly throw out a couple of APMs when they spawn / pod in and happily die right there. They know that their APMs will persist and that their team mates cannot be killed by them, so they Spam them out under the assumption they will get a couple of free kills before they die.

I'd rather see them used as defensive weapons than insta-kill persistent grenades. So far, I don't see this employed too often, since most Recon players don't seem to use them like this. Recon players should bear in mind that as soon as we can reliably turn FF on, there is a strong chance we will do so and your insta-kills will soon turn into insta-TKs.

I guess what I am saying is that right now, it's not a big problem, but it's up to those players not to force our hand with their cheap tactics.

Re: Good times on Tunis

Nothing to add here, but to agree with Bommando. If I get hit by an APM that is obviously guarding an opening/pathway/entrance to a place the Recon wants to secure I understand that and have no problem with it. If I'm not fleeing for my life I will usually check these places and duck past if I can.

I've seen too many recons just dumping them in high traffic open areas knowing they will get a free kill or 2. I can't say it's a huge issue, nor one we can make a rule against, but it's definitely growing and very frustrating at times.

I'm a spammer and proud of it. I'll run into a fight, throw down some APMs and run off to hide so my squad can spawn. Though I don't just spawn, drop some, die, repeat.

*shrug* If my beacon is getting camped you better believe I am going to spawn recon and throw down some APM. Beacon camping falls in the same category, and should be defensed as such. Both legal, but both can get you easy kills.

Edit: Not to mention this can take out the beacon campers and give my squadies a chance to pod in.
