Supports, you got that IPS shield for a reason!

It surprises me time and again how few supports even bother to use the IPS shield (the red portable shield), while it can save your life easily.

True, it doesnt provide full cover and it only gives a bit of cover, but if you make the shield face the direction you want to shoot at, go lie in a corner, place a shield, place a sentry gun to cover your back and then go crouch to fire just a little above the shield, or go prone just a wee bit next to it.

The main problem is that if you hug the shield, your head (I think) will go through the shield, making you an easy target, so back up a little.

The best place by far for this shield is narrow areas where you only need one area of cover, and thats infront of you.

Especially alleys and the like will mean doom for any infantry comes in with you on the other side and a shield.

Remember, if you are crouch/prone and you take damage, get behind the shield, wait for the enemy to stop firing and popup and kill them.

The shield also is a great warning to snipers, if you constantly hear one shot hitting the shield, a sniper is working on killing you.

You can place the shield nearly anywhere you want, if you back up enough, otherwise it will bounce off the wall before it deploys.

Also note, the second you deploy the shield, the shield itself is active, even the animation of the shield's 3D model still has to unfold.

Two weaknesses on the shield are the AR rockets and grenades.
Although a grenade will bounce off the shield, it wont shield you from the blast.
An AR rocket directly on the shield wont hurt you, but it will if the hit the wall behind you.

Also remember, you can pick up your shield, just like your sentry gun, so dont be afraid to switch locations.

Also, please dont throw it right in front of someone else's shooting range, when i was playing the other night i had a great sniper spot, some support guy comes and throws it right in my way and doesnt even use it. So not only can i not shoot prone, but now everyone knows theres someone behind that glowing red shield.

One of the problems with the IPS shield is it really gives away your position, with its red glow. I find them best used as temporary baracades. For example, on Cerbere Landing you can block off the side passes down Toll Station pretty effectively.

Yah, line those up with sentrys in the titan hallways, and not only do they have to jump over the barricade that shoots at them, but they cant shoot you while they try to jump over. So you can shoot them, and so can the sentry gun.

Yup, that's the only time I use them anymore.

With a single mod that gives all unlocks (It is single!!!) The IPS shield saved my life! With the sentry gun and IPS I took dumb bots about 30 per death! If you're being fired at the IPS shield only does good. The ememy has already seen you XD .

I find out that the shield is great for distraction as a decoy especially on infantry heavy map like Tunis or Cebere Landing. Drop it on a high point where people expect campers and they will direct attention away from you. The rest is history, wait for them to spend all their rockets or nades without hurting a fly before rushing to the shield to find themselves with my welcoming hail of leads.

Everytime I see an IPS shield I immediately send a rocket salvo headed their way...usually an easy free kill or two.

Yep, the only good use for these stupid things is as a blocking device to block titan hallways/etc so the enemy has to jump over it. Now if the game-creators would have made them able to be shot-through only for the owners, now that would have been something

a slot better used for emp's, mainly because engie's love you for making their job that much easier

although, i have noticed that the IPS shield has protected me from grenade blasts (or has seemed to)

Re: Supports, you got that IPS shield for a reason!

As previously mentioned, it atracts attention with its glow, is a rocket and nade magnet, blocks fire BOTH ways, and can even hinder your own movement if carelessly placed, meaning you get stuck and swallow a frag. That being said, it's not as bleak as it seems. I get the feeling it is really intended for use on the Titan, where those small corridors mean a chokepoint is a snap to set up. Heck, go SL, use support, bring the IPS and A12 Enforcer, grab one of the bullseye drones, and you've got a made-to-order ambush!

Also I read somewhere (can't remember) that the Zellar has the capability of disabling the IPS shield with a single shot straight to the little control box at the base of the shield BUT I have tried multiple times and I have never been able to shoot out the IPS shield with the Zellar.

Re: Supports, you got that IPS shield for a reason!

yea, i heard that too.... have never seen it happen.

As for what IMI said about it being designed for the titan, I don't think the developers had it intended for solely that reason. Crouching behind the IPS does actually reduce the number of deaths. Less area presenting itself for damage, less damage. By the time another MG has been fired enough for the reticule to tighten, any good person behind the shield *should* be able to kill the individual.

But that being said, its still a piece of crappy crap.
