Re: New screens

I'm incredibly excited about this game... but... some of those screen shots are suspect... like are we to take this seriously?

...the platypus driver has GAYDAR?? I didn't know the Strogg swung that way.

Re: New screens

On the contrary: I don't know exactly how you expected us to fight a war in the future without a gaydar, but it's clear that our "don't ask, don't tell" policy isn't good enough; we still get gay people in the army all the time.

The Strogg might not have any problem with it, though. Their boats might be gaydarless.

Re: New screens

Well, I looked at the new January 16 screens on IGN and didn't see that one on there, I really don't think that one is for real. The screens on there though are looking nice. Also the Platypus is a GDF (Human army) vehicle. Which on the offical Quake Wars website says it is a stealthy extraction vehicle that is very quiet at low speeds. Also "Gaydar" could be the name of the person driving and the diagram with the boxes could be the seats on it like in Battlefield and as you see the green box is in front, where the driver would be, just a guess though.

Here is the IGN screens...

Re: New screens

EndlessSky> I was just making a joke, and I don't supsect the validity of the screenshot. It doesn't make sense for anyone to alter such a trivial peice of the picture.

I beleive you got it correct, "Gaydar" is the driver of the platypus.

However, if you ignore that for a second, the joke was along the lines of "Gee, all that futuristic technology and the GDF outfit their army with sophisticated machinery like... gaydar... to hunt down... those gay Stroggs..."

Perhaps the Strogg boats are outfitted with "Neo-Condar"

-Aaron

P.S. Does it upset anyone else that someone immature enough to have the handle "Gaydar" got to playtest this game before us? Who else was on the beta team... "LynchMob" and "MinuteMen" ??

Beta testers are people just like you and me, and they don't change their nicks when they beta test. They're not chosen for their maturity, they're chosen for their ability to find bugs or be related to one of the developers.

...if the audience isn't laughing, I must not be funny...

Sorry, my presence in this thread has been light-hearted. I wasn't expecting serious responses. I'm aware how the beta process works, and that Gaydar is the name of the driver. I'll refrain from further jest, as it doesn't appear to be funny to anyone else.

Re: New screens

I haven't looked at the site yet, but I will. What are the current shaders this game is going to use?

Shaders? Well, it's going to be using pixel shaders and vertex shaders. I doubt they're going to add geometry shaders, which are DirectX10 only, but with the Doom3/Quake 4 engine, you never know.

Re: New screens

I understand too, the technology is based on some sort of "supertexture." Like the landscape is just one really, really big texture laid on top of the displacement. Crazy!

Re: New screens

what crazy is how big the maps are (in MBs) because of the megatexture.. with there compression (MegaGen) done the map file size is 500mb, which is retro spec is alot better then 5gb file size before the compression
