Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
Okay, this is pissing me off.
I come back after a month of getting my system fixed, reinstall BF2142, and patch to latest 1.10...now I get no higher than 15 fps. I have tried every resolution at lowest to medium settings. Every setting has still resulted in 15 fps. Now I did not get this bad fps before. In fact before I got around 25 fps. I can't get higher than 15 fps now, no matter what I try it seems. I tested all those settings on our TG Conquest server which is the only the server I've been playing on since becoming a SM. Current specs are: Pentium D, 1 GB of RAM, 7600GS, 80 GBs of free HD space, Audigy LS. Does anyone know of any solutions? Keep in mind, I really can't afford to spend another bill or so on more hardware.

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
How many GHz is your processor putting out?
Possibilities: Programs running in the background, turn off EAX (I think it uses a lot of resources.), Are you getting 15fps just staring off into space, or only when certain things are going on?

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
www.nvidia.com update your drivers if you haven't. I'm not familiar with the GS but I do know the GT is a respectable card.
-Update did some research on the GS and it is slower than a 6800GS so the card isn't that great. You only have 1 gig of ram so disable EAX if you haven't then change your sound provider from software to hardware pending whatever it is set (I don't recall which is faster) What resolution are you running at if your running at lets say 1920 x 1200 your going to take a very large performance hit. Whatever your native resolution on your monitor is run BF2142 at that then start all your options at very low work one up at a time. How is your ping? is it higher then 200? Is your computer in a properly vented area. Pentium D's are known to get very hot. You said you got your computer fixed did they touch your graphics card make sure the PCI-E power adapter is plugged into the card and the card isn't just in the motherboard without power. (will lead to very sluggish performance) -CHECK THIS FIRST i think this may or may not be the issue. Keep me posted - Zid. |

Were you accidentally recording with Fraps?
I did that yesterday and it started lagging when I ran out of memory and all the video started dumping to my harddrive. I had been recording for 10 minutes before I realized it. |

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
Nope, don't have any thing unneccesary running in background.
Ping is normal, around 90. I tried with lowest resolution all the way to 1280 x 960 at all the refresh rates. Yes computer is well ventilated, enough fans and airflow to sound like a jet taking off. I'm not on PCI-E graphics, AGP. And I did the repairs myself. Yes the 4-pin molex is connected. The 7600GS is superior to the 6800 GS mainly due to it's 12 pipelines versus the 6800's 8 pipelines. EAX is disabled. Sound is run through software since my Audigy lacks a DSP (digital sound processor). My Pentium D runs at 2.66 Ghz per core (2 cores). FSB is 533. Ram is running at effective clock speed of 666. I'm getting 15 fps no matter what I'm doing in game. I could be staring at the ground, moving, etc, my fps would stay at 15. I just updated my drivers, so I'll take another run at it and post back my results.

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
I don't have any other games installed.
I just updated my drivers, and tested it on TG server, with a res of 1024 x 768 @ 72 refresh, with all low or off settings except for textures on medium. EAX off, and sound set to software mode. I'm getting no higher than 30, but averaging at about 20 fps. I will have to test again at my normal res of 1280 x 960 with a half packed server when I get back from class.

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
Is this the normal resoulution that everyone is playing at? I have mine set at the option right below this because I couldn't tell much differance. Besides looks is there an advantage to having the resolution higher?

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
I use 1024x768 with 4x AA, you only need to use a big res when you have an LCD really.

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
I run at 1920 x 1200 it depends on your monitor size and native res. Any other res on my monitor and it looks like total trash. This is because it's widescreen and without using the native res it gets all stretchy.
You don't get that issue on standard 4:3 monitors. |

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
I'm using a 19" LCD. 1280 x 920 is my normal resolution for gaming.

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
I only get 30 fps if the server is empty. Otherwise I get 15 fps no matter what settings I use.
I've tried every in game setting to no avail. I've also tried uninstalling my drivers, and reinstalling a fresh copy of them. Didn't improve the situation. I've double checked my physical connections, and everything is hooked up properly. I've tried OC'ing my 7600GS, but that didn't help either. Isn't anyone else having this problem? And any new solutions?

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
sounds like a hardware issue maybe the card is overheating
since you said you used to get better performance either something is wrong with your OS..maybe fragments? or a piece of your hardware is busted due to wear and tear. |

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?
I believe the key is this:
What did you repair? What failed that caused you to work on the machine and what did you do to fix it? That is vital info if your performance changed after you did the repairs.
