The positive growth of our conquest server

Lets together look at how far we have come and where we are going.

A potted history
  • started off with =B&D= server but the server provider failed us and the server was laggy
  • TG invested in 2142 server
  • Server settings tuned to help create environment for teamplay eg reduce numbers to 48
  • Panzerhans wrote the autoadmin program.
  • Learn TG squads were numerous on the server
  • Server visitors becoming server regulars
  • The new guys form the 9th-MID
  • Server slightly quieter after Christmas due to seasonal variations
  • Where to next ?

so what are your thoughts guys ?

whats positive about what we have achieved ?
where can we take 2142 ?

Re: The positive growth of our conquest server

I cant speak too much of what is next, however, I know the 9th will be around for a long time. We do play other games, but our primary objective is to focus on 2142. That being said, I have a strong belief that the 2142 server will contine on.

Many have pointed out that the population of TG rises and falls, any community must ride these waves and keep true to what they believe in (teamplay in this case).

90% of the 9th is very very commited to it and TG, so if nothing else you got a good core of guys wanting to see 2142 live on.

My 2 cents.

Re: The positive growth of our conquest server

I kind of feel like our server is the best kept secret in 2142. Part of me wants to keep it that way since we only have 48 slots in a game that has tens of thousands of players, but then I see our poor, neglected titan server in the server list.

I wonder what would happen if we switched it over to conquest and experimented a little with the map rotation. I think it would be interesting to see what kind of traffic we could pull with a "city maps" server that would run a Belgrade, Berlin, Gibraltar, Tunis and Cerbere rotation.

Another idea is to get the word out and "evangelize" our server and style of play. This could be as simple as posting an invitation at some of the more popular community forums to come experience the game the way it was meant to be played. The invitation would explain our "squads only" script and a brief summary of our rules and style of play.

I know there are hundreds of players out there wandering in the wilderness of pub servers who are looking for what we offer (i was one of them). The only things keeping them from joining up is that they simply don't know about us or they get frustrated that there are only 48 slots.

just my 2 cents

Re: The positive growth of our conquest server

I think the next step is bringing in a group of titan players to get the second server populated. Or even see if the second server can survive as a conquest server. The second server is going to waste just because players like conquest more and would rather play where the majority of TG players are.

It's fully possible to have a regularly populated titan server. They do exist. TG just has to get some regulars on the server and build a name like the conquest server did.

For me, the next step is to bring teamplay standards to a new high. I would like to get on the server one night and see all 48 players with VoIP, all working together, a competent commander, and great battles all night long.

This is an achievable goal.

This is what I would like as well. When I'm on now, I'm going to make a strong effort to SL and force teamplay within my squad. I'm not that great at it, but it's better than having a squad of what's essentially lone wolfs on the server.

I too would like to see more people on the titan server. Just as =Sarc= said, it's just going to waste.

I like the idea of making a conquest server with a different map rotation. But then again I dont really care for the Titan sytle of play.

*shrug*

Edit: or make it a titan/conquest combo. I have seen a few servers like this, I am would be more inclined to log on a mix server then an all titan server.

Re: The positive growth of our conquest server

I believe one of the most important aspects is to be able to draw in new players who enjoy the TG way of playing. If we are unable to get new players the server will dwindle out and die.

Agreed, but there also needs to be some form of balance where we have the capacity to accept the new players. At the moment, there are more people knocking on the door than we can squeeze onto the server. Those people will unfortunately find another server to play.

I don't know if it has been discussed or considered, but I tend to think that TG could support another BF2142 conquest server, possibly running the booster pack and/or as someone said, city maps only. Since the Titan server sits empty most of the time, perhaps this could be worth trying there. I'd also suggest considering to run Titan Nights on it a few nights a week for people to get that fix.

Re: The positive growth of our conquest server

I hadn't even known we had a titan server, i'll be certainly looking for it so I can add it to my favorites (Can someone give me the IP?).
Titan can be a great, or a terrible, experience depending on how the game goes. I think that this community could pull it off for some extraordinary battles. I would like to see a titan night. The gameplay would be greatly benefited by the advertising of such a night on these forums, becuase most people who browse here are playing for the teamplay.

Other than that, i'd reccomend we strengthen the squadplay on our conquest server. Sharp squad leaders, and committed + loyal squad members. Try to get all the visitors involved and show them what a blast it can be.

Re: The positive growth of our conquest server

I've not been around since about mid-December, but hopefully I'm back in 2142 now. I did manage to get on the conquest server over the weekend.

Saturday afternnon seemed pretty full, but Sunday seemed really quiet. I was on Sunday Morning (UK) time for a couple of hours, only about 20 or so people on, and they gradually dropped off, low enough that we were waiting for players, eventually I jumped on another server.

The Titan Server had about 6 people on Saturday - only name I recognised was whiskey 66.

Both servers showed 0 players Sunday afternoon/early evening (UK time).

It may pay off to advertise the joys of TG on some UK/EURO based sites?

Not that I know of any

Re: The positive growth of our conquest server

I know for a fact that the conquest server is a huge Godsend. I'd rather sit there and refresh the server list until a spot opens on the TG server than join some random conquest server that lacks teamplay.

As far as the Titan server goes... I'd be willing to join in on the Titan nights, but if that server is only being used once a week perhaps it would make more sense to switch it for a second conquest server.
