How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)

[UPDATED 25.July.2008]

This comes up a lot, so here's a quick guide...

1) If you don't yet have Battlefield 2, you can get it from Amazon.com (via TG) for $7.99 (!!!)
(That's pretty much free if you figure the cost per hour you're going to be playing it )

2) Download and install the latest patch for BF2 - currently that's 1.41.(536MB)
Public Download (EA.com)

3) Download latest PoE2 Client - Version 2.5 (2.4GB Full Install, 645MB 2.1->2.5 Patch)
Public Download

4) Unzip and Install PoE2
A) Start with part one (PoE2-v2.5_fullclient_pt1of2.exe).
B) When part one is complete, run the second installer (PoE2-v2.5_fullclient_pt2of2.exe)

5) Familiarize yourself with the Server Rules and general expectations:
  • Teamwork and maturity are expected.
  • You must join a squad within 90 seconds or be auto-kicked.
  • Learn how to report rules violations.
  • We have reserved slots in place for Supporting Members.
    • The server is full at 62/64. Joining with 62/64 players will cause you to be auto-kicked after loading. When this happens, just keep trying!
    • If a Supporting Member joins when the server is full, it kicks the longest-playing Non-Supporting Member.
    • Supporting Members themselves are never kicked to make room for other players. Be sure to enter you BF2 Player ID in your profile if you are a supporting member.

6) Join us on Teamspeak!
In-game VOIP is the main communication tool, so mid-round TS chatter should be kept to a minimum.
- Rules violations, requests for invites to squads, mic checks, friendly banter between rounds, etc...

- boasting about a sweet headshot, blaming the game for your bad aim, "did you guys hear the news about...", etc...

7) Join us on the server!
Name: "TacticalGamer.com - PoE2 - 62 Open Slots"
IP: 64.34.183.232
Port: 16567

8) Have Fun!

Re: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)

Thanks Whiskey, I stumbled around for a bit until I figured it out. POE2 has been getting alot of posts on the 2142 server as "infantry" friendly and I wanted to check it out.

@90% almost downloaded.

Re: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)

HELP!

I installed the map pack and everything worked fine when the server was in Songhua (vanilla). But last night, TG server was red on my server list. The server was on a non-vanilla map. I checked Programs/EA/BF2/Mods/POE/Levels and the new maps were in there. I know I didn't download the server mappack.

Any advice for this problem?

Thanks.

Wierd. Did you try joining anyway (when it was red)? Sometimes the server-browser gets screwed up...

Re: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)

Thanks Whiskey. . .

Yes, I tried joining. It said I didn't have the current map. When I get home, I will check that levels folder again.

Is there a list somewhere of all the maps that should be in there if I ran the map pack? This way I can be sure they are all there. If not, I will try and re-install map pack.

Thanks again.

I had to Pub it last night. Hate it. Can't wait to get back to TG!

Including |D|Jaws Holiday mappack, I have 39 maps in level folder.. Now if you could just port over the SF,EF and AF maps there would be no reason to even have the BF2 shortcut on my desktop hint hint

Re: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)

Is it allowed to port over SF, AF, and EU, I thought only the vanilla game was allowed to be modded?

I wish more servers ran |D| Jaws' map pack.

Guys here is a link to a Full install of 1.5 which also has the map pack. We wanted to make things simpler for the new people coming on until we can get our next release out.

wait, so the "new" 1.1.5 includes the map-pack? (might think about a new version number if so)

Re: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)

Its called 1.15 FULL...since there was no full package previously the inclusion of the map pack makes no difference.

Re: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)

Mantis is correct. It is the same version but with the map pack. It does not require the maps to play. A new version would mean that actual files were changed or added in the build (objects, vehicles, sounds, etc...) but a map is different and makes no change to the build.

Re: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)

Can the first post be updated with just the 1.1.5 full client?
It contains all the stuff in the existing 4 links.
