Getting rudder pedals to work

Hey guys, I just bought 2142 but am having a problem getting my joystick and rudder pedals to play nice. The pedals work for me but I can't seem to get the side to side motion on my joystick to work, which should roll me right or left, instead I can't get the axis to bind and it doesn't do anything in-game. Any ideas? System specs follow

MSI K8Nneo2 Platinum
1GB Kingston Value Ram PC3200 (2x512)
1GB Kingston Hyperx PC3200 (2x512)
2x WD 80 GB 7200 RPM (IDE) (Not raided)
WD 36 GB Raptor 10000 RPM (SATA)
Maxtor 60 GB 7200 RPM
Maxtor External 200GB
eVGA 6800GT Video

Samsung DVD burner
OCZ 520 watt Powerstream +3.3v=28a +5v=30a +12v=33a
