Looking for Fraps Capable Players for Video Experiment
I want to capture some action sequences from more than one angle at once and try editing the multiple angles into a single sequence (imagine a volley of AT fire hitting a tank, then imagine seeing the fire and the explosion from multiple angles).
I need the cooperation of one or more other players that have used FRAPS, VOIP, and can handle 2 to 3 gig video files which I'll gather from my video crew via direct FTP connection. So you'll need to be FTP-capable as well. My editing skills are rudimentary, but this will simply involve cutting clips of the same scene and making a logical sequence of shots from the different camera angles. Let me know if you are interested. I'll be in-game tonight. If you have FRAPS, VOIP/MIC, and can FTP the resulting huge files to me, let me know via Teamspeak or here -- I'll be in the 1stMIP channel. Got an interesting short clip of Cuevero chasing Santa last night, but I was teamkilled before I could capture the frag on tape... E-Male

I wish I could give a hand... Fraps movie capture kills me frame rate.
Looking forward to watching your movies E-male. So there is a new class in PoE2 then, embedded reporter heh ![]() |

Re: Looking for Fraps Capable Players for Video Experiment
Keep in mind that FRAPS reduces my frame rate to 20 to 30 fps. Not great, but enough to get some good shots if you do not swivel around to fast -- camera movement should be slow and smooth anyway.
Anyhoo, still working on just capturing good sequences that have some drama and are close in enough so other TGers could recognize their 'selves' in the action. Close up fraggy environs such as woodland battles don't work well, to much runnin around. Armour maps work better, with good choke points such as bridges and big things blowing up real good. Have yet too try using the sniper kit to get some interesting zooms, and need to try very high res settings and see if the frame rate is any good (I suspect not). And one point I had my Heli hovering above a jet and the end of a runway, waiting for it to take off. Wanted to follow the jet from close behind as it took off down the runway. Did not work, as I was in a slow moving troop carrier. Would be interesting to try with a good pilot and an attack helo. Thus far, easy to get action, but hard to get concrete 'story' -- but getting closer... E-Male

Re: Looking for Fraps Capable Players for Video Experiment
I'll try to get setup with FRAPS for this weekend if you still need some help then. My system could handle the hit easily.

E-Male, can't you use the in-game replay system and just do multiple captures in a recorded game?

Re: Looking for Fraps Capable Players for Video Experiment
Unfortunately, we don't (can't) enable demo recording on a full server, but if it is just some cool video you want to capture, you can do it on a smaller server. I'm not sure if we currently have demo recording enabled on any TG servers, but I bet asch knows.

Re: Looking for Fraps Capable Players for Video Experiment
Thanks again for the info. I am working on in-game video shots via fraps to capture TG in action, so fraps will do fine. Tried using it last night with video settings on high, worked well (a bit choppy but not unwatchable) as long as the camera (MY) movements are steady and not too fast.
Sorry I missed you last night, Dirtboy. Was in game a bit before I turned on Teamspeak. I'll post here when I'm in-game again doing video. In the meantime, take a few shots with fraps and get a feel for the results. Note that 90 seconds runtime equals about 1.2 Gig. Note that the best shots are slow pans, and also best when you are not moving, capturing the action around you. Also note, the sniper kit is best, as it gives us a 'camera' that can zoom in quite well on action (thus keeping the cameraman safe!). This also makes the shots feel more 'alive'.

Re: Looking for Fraps Capable Players for Video Experiment
Ok, here is a test clip at:
http://www.strangelove.com/Strangemovies/index.html Itis a brief clip of DarkViper in a Helo last night -- nice smooth flying as usual for the Viper. What is lacking is a second camera angle to show the havoc he is creating on the ground. For some reason the epic soundtrack I added dropped out. I'll spare the tech details behind making this, but to say the orignial file was 414.865 KB, Adobe Premiere reduced the file to a 181,700 KB .AVI clip, and Sorenson Squeeze complied it down to a 11,000 KB .FLV streaming file, so much quality is lost along the way. The clip itself is not exactly compelling video, but gives an idea of what can be done.

Re: Looking for Fraps Capable Players for Video Experiment
Nice project, I 'd love to help, and have a video editor that is up to speed, alas my computer and upload limit are not. It is especially nice if you can show off good teamwork in a game (vs acted).

Re: Looking for Fraps Capable Players for Video Experiment
I see know that a two camera project, while possible, would necessitate some old fashion snail mail.
It is not unusually to end up with 8 gig worth of footage, as 1 1/2 minutes makes for a 1.2 gigabyte file. This is too big for FTPing I think (although not sure what transfer rate and time would be in such a case...) Oh well,
