PR - Video of Troop Movements Feb 04
From February 04, 2007
http://www.tacticalsites.com/~e-male/ A record of various troop movements and flag captures on Rolling Thunder -- Project Reality. With SL Shafik, and Coridon, Mosely, troublesome4u and TwilightOfDeath. This video includes a soundtrack featuring "Woke Up This Morning" (Sopranos' Theme by A3) and Adagio de Albinoni. 7 minute run time, one camera only, no location sound. Problems with mixdown to .FLV creating clipping in sound when two sound tracks are overlaped in the mix. Again, video rendering to .FLV leads to sharp reduction in image quality. No shots on enemy being engaged, but some nice scenery. Started to use a new camera technique at the 5 1/2 minute mark, simply by running backwards, capturing trucks and troops moving towards me -- nice perspective results. Started using titles and end credits to nice effect. Also started using fast motion and selective editing of clips. Must stick with sniper rifle, as much is lost without the zoom feature. Comments?

There might be link mix-up E-male. This seems to be the MIP video for PR that I wasnt able to watch before.
Looks really nice... Quality is much better than YouTube videos, you can easily read the text. Now I know how you got that tank. Nice TOW station awareness ![]() Last edited by John CANavar; 02-05-2007 at 08:06 PM. |

Strange...When I visit your site using IE nothing works except a single video. IE also gives flashplayer errors.
When I used Firefox I could see all the videos without a problem. Maybe I need to update IE flash plug-ins. |

Re: Video of Troop Movements Project Reality Feb 04
Nice work!
I specifically like how you were able to keep the story of the game in the footage. Speeding up the action also worked pretty well if you were walking steadily. The first person view is possibly the best view you can get of the action too. Funny that we now have an embedded press corps too .One critical remark though, from someone with considerable experience mixing music: avoid mixing two songs, unless they go really well together AND you can sync their rhythm. Instead I would advise just fading out one song, then fading in the next. That is much easier to do, and in 90% of the cases it will sound just as good as a mix that cost a lot of time to do.

![]() About the video, it looks good! That was a pretty rough round for our team but at least the video is mostly our squad in motion. I felt bad near the beginning when you cross the river and it's just you, Shafik and Troublesome. I was in the Linebacker engaging the attack helo at the time and became separated from the rest of the squad. Good stuff, E-male. P.S. The name of the map is STEEL THUNDER not ROLLING THUNDER. |

Re: Video of Troop Movements Project Reality Feb 04
Thank you for the feedback and suggestions. I have re-edited the sound, as that is a simple and quick fix, and added a few more end credits to include TACTICALGAMER.COM.
The improved edit will be available later today. Looking forward to more in-game video opportunities. The maps with lots of armor and airpower work best, for sheer drama. The woodland maps often lack good vantage points that are safe to shoot from without dying in the process. I think Project Reality may end up being an ideal environment, as it keeps the runnin and gunnin silliness to a minimum. I particularly liked the combination of dramatic music, the American flag going up, and smoke billowing around the flag. I'll try and capture more such scenes.

Re: Video of Troop Movements Project Reality Feb 04
Thanks E-male for taking the time to put these together. Been checking them out as you put them up.
I was thinking the other day that it would be fun to have a embedded journalist pickup kit at the UCB . Allowing the person to shoulder a video camera with decent zoom levels and maybe a 35mm camera in game model. Although a unarmed reporter running around in POE2 would probably end up attracting knives. I'd love to see the footage of a reporter and their camera man trying to move in on a flag on the tail of a few squads ![]()

The link doesn't seem to be working correctly for me either -- I'm running IE6. (I know, I know. Why aren't I using Firefox?) I get the same video that I got the other night when I tried to watch the Gas Station defense video.

http://www.tacticalsites.com/~e-male/ using IE and see the problem -- the streaming .FLV files do not show up, and the flash upgrade message appears, even after upgrading. Not sure what the issue would be, I think my HTML is standard stuff. Will look into it. I'll put a note on the video page later indicating the problem and recommending the use of firefox. Bloody Microsoft.

Re: Video of Troop Movements Project Reality Feb 04
You might just give a link to the FLV directly for IE users with a link to flv player somewhere on the page. Maybe that is too much of a hassle to download, just a suggestion.
