My mic stopped working :(
Well, last Suday, I cleaned my PC and since then, my comp doesn't recognise my mic as a mic, but thinks it's another speaker :S I checked if I broke something while cleaning the PC, but everything inside the comp is alright
![]() I also used a differet headset to see if mine was broken, anyway. It happened with both headsets (they are of the same make btw) Any help appreciated ![]()

Re: My mic stopped working :(
I had some issues with my mic, mainly because I have three selectable recording devices. This is especially picky with USB recording devices that are not actually part of your sound card. Your sound card will always reserve a hardware device for your recording device even if you don't have it plugged in, but with a USB device if you unplug it the entire device registration goes away and Windows will default back to any present recording devices.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices. If you look in the pic, you will see that you can select your default recording and playback device. Make sure that the device you are looking for is plugged in and selectable. The same goes for the Voice tab. Then use the "Test Hardware" button to go through the mic volume adjustments. After you have your mic regestered in Windows, reboot. It's Windows, it can't hurt. then go back into your settings and make sure they stuck. After that go into 2142, and go to Options > Sound, and use the mic test button to make sure all is kosher. |

Re: My mic stopped working :(
It's not a USB headsed, but I'll try anyway
![]() Edit: I can only select my sound card as device, it doesn't recognise any headset ![]() ![]() Btw, if it helps in any way: When I use TS or Skype or something like that, my mic records all the stuff that comes out of the speaker, meaning that ppl who talk to me hear themselves talking but I can't answer back, since it can't record my voice :S

Re: My mic stopped working :(
Windows recognizes realtec which is your motherboard soundcard.
It will always show this in the windows options, there is not field for the mic you are using, windows cant recognize the brand of mic. Before you start thinking about recording sounds (I assume you mean fraps), I advise you to just get your mic operating normaly so you can play a game. Test in Teamspeak before 2142. Its a more reliable test. Then move onto 2142. Does the teamspeak test work ?

Re: My mic stopped working :(
I have a problem similar to this (wont waste a new thread). I'm using a headset at the moment. The headphone portion works, but the mic is a no go. So im stuck using the headphones and my standalone mic. It's wierd, I plugged the mic jack from the headphones in the same spot as the standalone and nothing. My sound card has 4 jacks in it I believe, but the colours don't seem to match (mic goes into a teal hole).

Re: My mic stopped working :(
Are you positive that you are configuring both the "Recoding" options as well as the "Playback" options?
Recording adjusts the audio level of the selected device, in this case "Microphone" should be selected and the volume bar should be up a bit (or a lot, depending on distance from the mic, how loudly you speak, mic boost, hardware, etc). Playback volume adjusts the volume out to your speakers/headset. I keep my mic muted on the playback tab to avoid hearing myself in the headphones. |

Re: My mic stopped working :(
To me it sounds like you have more than one recording device in your machine or your device drivers are out of whack.
For giggles, go into Sound Recorder and see if you can record yourself. In XP, this can be found under Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Entertainment -- > Sound Recorder. In there, click "Edit" -> "Audio Properties". Verify the "Sound Recording" default device is your card (there should be only one entry in the drop down) Click "OK" then click the record button and speak into the mic for a few seconds. Hit stop and then play and see if you get anything back. I'm guessing not... Last edited by Lorax74; 02-15-2007 at 07:00 PM. |
