Next Next Gen Video Cards spotted (8900 Series and R600XTX)

For those of you who are still running on PCI or dreaded on-board video eat your hearts out:

News on 8900 and 8950GX2 and ATi's R600XTX.

The size of these cards are just plain HUGE! I hope they invent a shrink ray of some sort, because you'll have to buy a new case to fit these in your computer! And to run the 8950GX2 (If that's going to be what it is) im guessing at least 1kw PSU will be required.

personally i don't see the need to upgrade after getting a gts. next gen games (crysis dx10) runs perfectly fine on a gts (and high res) and i really really don't see any game anywhere near that graphically wise.

Re: Next Next Gen Video Cards spotted (8900 Series and R600XTX)

I'm considering upgrading from my x800xl. I just hope this new ati card comes with a power adapter so I can power it from my current PSU. Though looking at that monster, it looks like I may need to upgrade my psu from my current 450W one to a 550W.

Kinda silly to make a card that big when it will prevent many existing users from upgrading to it.

I'm looking forward to the external video cards they are developing for late in the year. It has its own power supply, and is an easy upgrade path.

Re: Next Next Gen Video Cards spotted (8900 Series and R600XTX)

I'll be upgrading to the FX2 8900 in around 90 days using the EVGA step-up program. Assuming my case can fit it and my power supply can support it - and they have the card out and available by then.

Re: Next Next Gen Video Cards spotted (8900 Series and R600XTX)

I want these to release now so that older cards will become cheaper, making things for my next build easyer to obtain. And if i decide to go Evga on Nvidia's part I may wait until i can afford to utilize the "step-up program". The only reason i'd bring this up is the fact that older cards will/should drop prices soon after release.

It's not a guarantee that older cards might drop in price. Instead, they might become fewer and stores will sell off the stock as better parts come in. Then a long time from now, you'll see any remaining obsolete parts sold in bargain bins.

Holy Crap! You totally just made my day. I did not know that eVGA had a step-up program. When I built my computer I went a little cheap on my card and have been kicking my self ever since. Luckily it has only been 81 days. 8800 here I come

I believe the R600 shown in the site above was the OEM version, the retail version is sapposed to be shorter in length.

It's true. The 7800GTXs never dropped in price since they came out (or I should say hardly dropped in price). A 7800GTX 256MB card is around $500 new right now.

WOW, that is impressive. Plug that baby right into the wall, in it's own case.
