PR - Feb 18 Sun

Our server was filled with TG regulars tonight. Reminded me good old Tac Mod days.

Very fun rounds... Especially Albasrah (the last map I played). I can still hear the scream of A-10s in my ears.

Re: PR - Feb 18 Sun

Lots of fun tonight...teamwork is improving...or was it just the squad...hmmm...

Al Basrah was a looonnngggg round...lots of fun...good back and forth battles. I had staying with and then finding my FTL at South VCP. That urban zone is so well done on this map. Playing on the insurgent side is a real challenge as the USMC has a decided fire power advantage. Insurgent's side had most of the TGer's I thought, but the weapon imbalance between USMC and the insurgents seemed to level it out fairly well.

Thanks for the good rounds...John C/Aculle/The Khan/Coridon/Emale...loving this mod.

Re: PR - Feb 18 Sun

Yea both sides are a blast to play on Al Basrah.

On one hand the USMC have this huge advantage of air superiority and air mobility with two blackhawks. It's awesome as an SL to have the ability to call that support in, or even fly in the air squad. However the insurgents are a very innovative group, and the kits play well together. Using an insurgents grappling hook to gain rooftop access followed by RPG's and the pickup AA, you can create an effective chopper suppression squad. I feel on Al Basrah however, that it is a sound tactic to withdraw from the city and forgo bedding USMC. Even without bleed you have several distinct advantages.
  • A-10's have a hard time hitting their targets as precisely as they can in the slums/road area between the VCP's as well as in the VCP's. By staying in the city, you remove yourself greatly from the air threat. I have found that bombing casualties usually outnumber any bleed insurgency manages to get on that map.
  • You have an infantry mobility/guerrilla advantage. The grappling hooks, the mobile spawns, you can really keep hitting the USMC from multiple locations, and quickly destroy their stationary rally points.
  • It's easier to defend. Mosque is a fortress. While the complex is open to bombing, the streets surrounding it are quite narrow and removed from any air threats. Grappling hooks allow for quick access over and onto the mosque wall, and if the situation permits an air suppression squad on the mosque roof could do quite well. Armor can sit in the several archways leading into mosque, safe from flanking infantry and air threats.

Re: PR - Feb 18 Sun

Good points, Foxoq. I spent a whole round Saturday night trying to down an A-10 or attack helo with one of the fixed AA emplacements but it's next to impossible to do alone. Sunday I downed the Blackhawk and that was exhilerating after taking such a beating from the air.

I'd like to see a cheat-sheet that has all the "pick up" kits like the SVD and mobile AA for the insurgents marked. I think if you have two mobile AA kits and focus on one A10 while someone mans the fixed AA you should have a good chance of downing one. That'll be my next assignment...

Also used a molotov cocktail for the first time. I played "policeman" most of the round, and he has a shotgun (with buckshot and slugs!), molotov cocktails and ammo. Pretty fun loadout to have in the urban setting.

After the round I thought it might be good to sneak up on a tank or APC and hit them with the molotov since it burns for a while. Hit it with and AT round and whoever hops out to repair will burn, I would think.

I still can't help laughing when someone races by on one of the dirtbikes, and I cannot possibly keep my eyes from watering with laughter when the Jihad semi cruises by. A semi with a frickin' 2,000 lb. bomb strapped to it, blaring the insurgent theme from BF2 Special Forces!! Oh man, is there a video of that thing yet? E-male must get that thing in one of his videos.

Speaking of, I was driving it around and I don't think E-male knew what it was so he hopped in the passenger seat and we cranked up the tunes. I started driving and found an enemy squad and tried to run them over to no avail. I told E-male "it's time for you to get out now" but started taking fire so I detonated before he could get clear. What's worse is I could hear medics reviving after we were both obliterated. Drat!!

Insurgents Attack American Supply Depot

CBC reporter E-Male was embedded with TG's 1st-MIP on under the command of squad leader John.C on Sunday February 18, 2007. His video camera captured footage of the destruction of a US rally point in the town of Al Basrah by Iraqi insurgents.

http://www.tacticalsites.com/~e-male/

Lt. Bob Bundy, spokesman for the Defense Department, said American authorities are looking into the attack. "As far as I know there has been an investigation launched into the attack and the events that followed," Bundy said. "It's also anticipated that the Iraqi police will participate."

Not exactly high drama, but it is my first successful attempt at making a video within a video using Adobe After Effects.

Appox 2 minutes run time. This is a 79 MB .avi file. Appox 3 minute download @ high-speed cable.

About that....

And this one for Coridon:

http://www.tacticalsites.com/~e-male/

Coridon Destroys E-Male and other chumps in Sucide Semi. Very brief video of 1st-MIP Coridon driving a suicide semi at Al Basrah. He took me out in the fireball before I could get the whole scene. Sound (music), appox 30 sec run time.

Also,

I got about 30 gig of video from that night, but nothing that demonstrated anything clearly enough to communicate a story. More next week...

Re: PR - Feb 18 Sun

I would like to extend a huge thank you to the 1st MIP for allowing me to tag along for a couple of games. Your professionalism is immediately apparent. I learned a lot in just the time I played. I am a very fast twitched gamer and did well at old bf2 but am finding PR to be a bigger challenge than I thought. I am really trying to start from scratch and have fun learning. Thank you guys.

PS. I got discoed for an SM and didnt get a chance to say goodbye in game =)

Re: PR - Feb 18 Sun

Anytime, Fallosophy. I think you played with us on Hills of Hamyong, yes?

Generally speaking, if we name a squad "1stMIP" we'll lock it and get 2-4 squad members in, then unlock it for others to fill the remaining positions. It's been working tremendously well and it's good to know people are starting to wrap their heads around this mod by squadding up with us.

We still have our "off" nights, naturally, but an open invitation goes out to those individuals who think PRM has a lot of potential but just haven't seen it realized yet.

Re: PR - Feb 18 Sun

I want to thank 1stMIP for once again allowing me to participate. I've played the .4 USMC on a non TG server and it's not much fun because verteran insurgent players know to take the cars and camp the USMC airfield with snipers and AT to keep everything grounded. Kind of cheap to just spawn camp. However this map is great. It was almost awe inspiring to see a pair of A-10's coming in for a straifing run. Poor tanker. It was good fun and I can't wait to play it again. I think our team had the idea towards the end, but it was too late.
