1st-MIP Advance (at Jabal) S.O.P. Video

Advance at Jabal

http://www.tacticalsites.com/~e-male/

A brief look at bounding overwatch with the 1st-MIP, John.C as squad leader, with commentary (text) by myself and Hank Williams Sr. on the soundtrack. I failed to set margins correctly, so the screen is clipped at the edges, but this has little impact on action.

Not great drama, but may be worth archiving as a S.O.P video library item.

Note for Admins:

I realize these videos will eventually become a problem vis a vis disk storage space. Older videos and those that have little S.O.P or educational value can be eliminated upon request.

This was fun to watch. Showed what happened so much more clearly. This kind of video is also interesting to people outside tg now, because they will actually learn something.

Re: 1st-MIP Advance (at Jabal) S.O.P. Video

Nice video, good to see plenty of teamwork action.

About the use of disk space, you can partially sort that out yourself, your videos are unnecessarily big. Your audio is uncompressed PCM at 1024kb/s, when it should be more like 128kb/s. We all know how big wav files can get, and that's basically what your audio is, wasting lots of space. The video is very big as well, this video is 3600kb/s at 800x600. At the moment I am playing around with some HD footage (1280x720) that looks reasonable at 1024kb/s. Here is a comparitive shot, I recompressed the video using XviD at 1024kb/s with a resulting filesize of 23MB. Significantly smaller than yours.

You can tell that it has been recompressed, but from the significantly smaller filesize, I don't think that is a problem. Also, it has been recompressed from a non-original source which makes it even worse.

Here is the encoder command I used:
mencoder -ovc xvid -oac mp3lame -xvidencopts pass=1:bitrate=1024 -lameopts preset=standard 1st-MIP.avi -o 1st-MIP.2.avi && mencoder -ovc xvid -oac mp3lame -xvidencopts pass=2:bitrate=1024 -lameopts preset=standard 1st-MIP.avi -o 1st-MIP.2.avi

Enjoy, hope that helps.

Re: 1st-MIP Advance (at Jabal) S.O.P. Video

Lorian,

Thank you for the comments -- I am using Adobe Premiere pro 7.0 along with After Effects and have very little understanding of the program and video editing.

I am working on getting mpeg4 encoding and will also recompress at various settings to see if I can cut the file size without too much degradation.

Right now my main problem is I cannot get Adobe Pro to give me mpeg4 in the microsoft compression options, and I do not know how to import compression codecs into Pro.

Reason I am doing this stuff at all is becuase I give my students the option to submit video projects for mid-terms, and I want to have a minimum cabability of video production vis a vis the Internet.

Anyhow, will try query some tech forms and will repost new compression versions of the latest Jabal video soon.

Hey E-male... try this:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

It's the latest WMV compressor. After I installed it, it magically appeared in Premier... Seems to have really increadible size/quality tradeoff... With the highest quality settings, it yields about 10MB per minute of video (including compressed audio). (This is the setting I used in that video AAR I made)

Re: 1st-MIP Advance (at Jabal) S.O.P. Video

I recompressed the Jabal video using the MS Video 9 option and that reduced the file size from 90MB to 30 MB, with small loss in quality.

This smaller size has replaced the older large file at:
