Argh, Drone

Those of you who were in my squad this afternoon may remember that I was having quite a time trying to get a drone that would not self-destruct upon spawning, or kill me upon spawning. I wish I had a recording of this moment at Com Tower on Belgrade: I'm waiting for an ammo hub to resupply my drone for yet another try at bringing up a drone, and everyone in the squad gathers around to watch me fail again. The hub finishes, I summon the drone, and a huzzah rises from the squad...followed almost immediately by an enemy APC mortar that wipes us. The comedic timing of our deaths was simply perfect.

i know, i know. anyone who squaded with me today could hear me vent. I found the best way to prevent it is to walk forward while putting out the drone. Make sure you're walking either downhill or on even ground as well.

Re: Argh, Drone

I've had a hard time with the drone too yesterday. It hasn't killed me yet but it just kept exploding. But I found out that, like Zoraster said, if your walking (moving) when you deploy it, it won't explode.

Re: Argh, Drone

Actually, it blew up on me quite a few times even while I was moving.

Re: Argh, Drone

I found that walking only prevents it from blowing you up when it deploys but it still blows it self up about 80% of the time. I tried the gun drone and it blew up a lot too. I was planning on sticking an infantry scanner to it so I could use it as an otus.

Re: Argh, Drone

I think I only got the darn drone to successfully deploy a handful of times, which is aggrevating when I only get to play one day a week now. When it didn't blow up on deployment or kill me, it would slam into my head as I was walking and shave off 20 points from my health.

Alas, DICE, when will you be able to patch some things without breaking others....

On top of that, if I ever see one more squad on those roofs between playground and com tower it will be too soon. God that was a pain in the ass. It was pretty much raining APMs and grenades.

Agreed, that was beyond annoying.

Sure if you live long enough to sight them for range and still have time to get a few off...

Re: Argh, Drone

Try going prone before you activate the drone, that worked for me.

Edit: Just don't stand up too fast, or it won't have time to hover out of the place your head normally would've been.

Re: Argh, Drone

While sitting on rooftops is becoming more common on this server, I find that people who lay prone and only show me their head receive many more headshots than other people.

A fair trade, imho.

Yeah, I was pretty cheesed off that day, but looking back on it, it wasn't so bad, just annoying. And for whatever reason, I simply could not get rocket ranges right that day. I was more annoyed at the stupid drone.

Re: Argh, Drone

I suffered the wrath of the drone last night, but the kicker was I wasn't SL. I was being the good ol SM I try to be and keeping tight with the SL and then I saw the drone start to deploy and got my revive ready just in case. And then I died. I think my viop response was "I think your drone just killed me when it deployed." followed by laughter and someone saying "Yeah, I saw that, then it killed me." These drones are out of control!

I kind of like the otus now. It puts a whole new twist to the game. It's like a wierd version russian roulette or something.
